Skyzone is closing?! WTF! I thought this place was pretty busy.

No reasons have been given for its exit from the WInnipeg market. I will surmise the revenues were not as good as the owners had anticipated.

Thankfully there are several other indoor trampoline venues in the city to allow people to bounce their brains out

That's true. Perhaps the others are offering better prices and/or a greater variety at their venues than Sky Zone did and that ultimately lead to their demise.

Or could be business was fine but owners wanted to move on. Sometimes that happens too. I know of a restaurant that was getting good business but the owners closed simply to move on to other things

It seems like there is a revolving door of these kid oriented indoor playground/active entertainment places. They seldom last more than about 5 years or so.

Lowe’s/Rona is closing a bunch of underperforming stores, none in Winnipeg at the moment.

We are overbuilt with certain types of retailers but I didn't think we were necessarily oversaturated with home improvement stores so I wasn't surprised to see Winnipeg left off the store closure list this time out.

How long before they combine the stores though? Like why operate both – I'm sure the Ronas on Kenaston and Regent are not long for this world. Maybe Polo Rona converts to Lowes down the road.

You make it sound like they're phasing out Rona but there are Lowes stores on the closure list too.

The close-by Rona and Lowes on Kenaston is kind of a weird arrangement, but both stores seem reasonably busy.

That was just my presumption as Lowes bought Rona, would be easier to manage one brand as they also operate Lowes in the states, not Rona.

Which is sad. Another Canadian name brand dies at the hand of Corporate America and NAFTA.

The Americanisation of Canada continues and we as Canadians continue to eat it up like it is the best thing for us.

Rona is not exactly some kind of Canadian icon IMO... how long has the brand existed outside of Quebec, maybe 20 years?

No, but Rona/Revy is just another example of the slow death of Canadian retail over the last 30ish years.

Rona stores tend to be smaller and Lowes are the biggest stores in their portfolio of brands, It would be hard to convert some of the Ronas to Lowes as it would create inconsistency for the Lowes brand.

There are still people who probably don't know Lowes And Rona are the same company, there are people who don't know Tim Hortons is owned by Burger King etc. people don't pay attention that much.

Yeah, good point. There are a lot of smaller town Ronas, they vary a lot in size… I could see it continuing to exist as a Home Hardware type brand for those kinds of towns, or for small urban stores. I suppose it makes sense to go with Lowe's for the urban big box format stores.
