Positive is overrated. I'm telling the truth. These are not up to par with his SSP drawings. It's obviously the software holding him back. It's up to koops to find encouragement in my harsh words or dismiss than as an unfounded opinion. I'm not going to be offended either way.

I've seen a guy with less talent produce a professional 3D model on Revit in a couple minutes. It wouldn't take long.

His model is being done in Second Life, which is more like an open-world video game than a 3D modelling software. It would be next to impossible to port it out of that and into Google Earth, and it would be pointless for him to completely restart it because he's already in so deep. No point in throwing a fantastic model like that away in favour for one in a better engine.

Even though there will always be better tools to model with, people stick with their respective systems and conventions because it works for them, and evidently, this software works for Koops. It's also been a work in progress for many years now and he's got his work down to an art at this point. Completely changing his modelling process would not be worth it, since his current convention fulfills the needs of skyline representation just fine.

As ericmacm said, I'm in too deep to start over. As for the format being disliked by some people, well, you can't please everyone all the time...
The videos and pics are quite popular. Some of the pics get viewed several thousand times. I'm comfortable with how things are going...
The model is slowly getting better as I convert old textures to newer and higher quality ones, but it will never be photo realistic. That's beyond my abilities.

I'm not very good at this, but adding a couple of the proposed towers to Ottawa's Western skyline. It doesn't include our almost complete new tallest (Claridge Icon) or the proposed new tallest (Trinity Centre at Bayview) as they are outside our CBD. I don't know what to think about Ottawa's obsession with twins lately but this will add some much needed modern materials and height variation to our table top. Claridge Moon on the right and 400 Albert on the right.

There will always be snapper type comments.. but only one Koops. Drawing is much harder than posting comments on a site.

Would love to see your work. Oh wait... Those who can't, criticize...

You know, it's like Toronto has decided to cap itself at 300 meters. Is there some reason there aren't any proposals considerably taller? Well, other than the financials, I mean.

Elevator tech is a big one. Shafts take a huge amount of floor space, so they try to keep the count low; but elevators can only manage a certain capacity.

That coupled with land prices and sales volume (don't want to hold land too long) leads toward a profit peak between certain heights.

If Thyssenkrupp manages to get their multi-elevator shaft past the prototype stage, the "profit" cap will suddenly become much higher as 3 shafts (up + down + backup) can cover a much higher number of floors.

Some of the tallest proposals are at that height because of their shadows onto existing parks...

You really need to zoom in to see that one Koops.

I had to google this one, Didn't know or forgot what it looks like.

Typical Lamb, not one of his better designs though.

I can't always do the big, flashy towers... have to do the smaller projects as well.
