I agree, a great use for the space. It could include some public displays at time to invite people into that beautiful building.

Having some kind of prestige commercial use for BMO like banking or head office would be by far the best use... Anything else would be a consolation prize. A bar or restaurant would be kind of sad.

The Westin in Minneapolis is in an old bank and their lobby/lounge/restaurant is the old banking hall.. it's quite spectacular. I know that won't happen here, but it shows what is possible!

^ Yeah, as part of a top notch hotel that type of arrangement would be OK, for sure. I could be happy with BMO as the lobby area for a Westin Hotel tower next door...

That would be quite the culmination of the on-going shake-up at Portge and Main!

Due to all the climate controls a proper archives area has I would take a guess that trying to reuse a former banking hall would be an extremely poor fit and very costly.

City of Winnipeg needs to focus their efforts on getting their office space out of leased locations and into buildings they own. The space at Fort Garry Place and the office tower on Graham specifically come to mind.

Anyone know what’s going on behind the Tims on North Mcphillips. It looks like there’s some construction happening between the tims and the Walmart parking lot.

Poll: will Bell (MTS) ever put new banners up in the dozens of empty holders on the outside of their tower that haven't been used since the merger?

Can you explain this a little further? I've never fully understood it.

In the private sector, it would be very unusual for a firm to own all its own real estate (or if they did, as some large retailers do, they would spin it off as its own REIT or something). Except when the real estate *is* the strategy, I think most firms lease the majority of their space.

But there's this idea that it's more rational for governments to own vs. lease space. Why is that?

Doubtful, since they don't fully occupy the building nor do they own it.

Noted in the WFP today that 433 Main was bought by Alston and the top nine floors are going residential.

It could stay at 433 Main... 9 floors of residential still leaves 4 floors of commercial.

They cant afford to. Poor BELL / MTS.. Boo hoo...
Their rates have jumped dramatically as predicted and that's not good enough for them. Also.,. Where are all the WESTERN CANADIAN HEAD OFFICE jobs they promised?
