You're right that Whitehorse and Yellowknife are somewhat better in terms of temperatures than most people would expect. Similar to a number of cities in northern Ontario and northern Quebec.

People expect them to be like Iqaluit (which basically has no summer) but they're not.

My friend was dating a guy who was from Whitehorse, last month he asked her to move there and she said it was too cold. I told her to check the temp and it was 26 when it was only 13 here.

Anyway, way off topic now. Back to canyons.

.
The warm(er) subarctic climate zone actually extends a lot further north in the west than in the central-east part of the country, where the cooling effect of Hudson and James bays and other factors push the true arctic climate zones quite a bit further south of where they appear in the west.

Yeah, even if you take the Wikipedia climate averages rather than anecdotal weather app checking, Whitehorse is similar in temperature to Winnipeg. Which, while cold, is probably still a lot warmer than most would probably guess based on latitude.

Don't worry, it will come. The MNP will just become dramatic background offset, the Marine Building will never lose its striking charm nor its pride of place at the streethead.

Must be confusing as hell and a mouthful for tourists who don't speak English as a first language

I'm from Vancouver, and I've always wished they used 1,2,3 or A, B, C .....
I suggested it once and got booed and hissed. It seems we have to honour our heritage and historic events.
Also, there was a big and unecessary brouhaha when somebody thought "The Evergreen Line" was going to be used all the way to UBC. Using different colours would have helped.

I literally couldn't agree more with this opinion. I feel like the flowing lines of MNP Tower is nearly perfectly complementary of the artistic friezes and stark angles/setbacks of the Marine Building. Very nice

M. Muraz deserves a key to the city for his pics.

Like how the night lighting on top of 10 York helps turn a wannabe flat-iron into a real wedge.

Any time I drive through that stretch I get that mini Tokyo vibe. I try to avoid driving through there because I already work DT everyday and prefer not to go anywhere near DT on weekends, but on the odd occasion that route is faster than 401 when I'm going east to west or vice versa. So basically I haven't gotten bored of that stretch yet.

Wouldn't wanna live in one of those condos facing the road though.

What do you guys think of this?

I was well aware of the wind issues but less aware of the heat island effect and I was totally ignorant of the pollution aspect.
