This appears to be the Pembina Highway isolation valve for the Esso/Shell Red river crossing of the pipeline and not a pumping station.

I wonder if you are thinking of the TC Energy / Centra Gas St. Norbert Gate Station on the west side of Hwy 75 closer to Winnipeg in La Salle. That is a bigger complex tied to the TC pipeline(s) and is one of the control / master metering locations for accessing natural gas for the Winnipeg area.

Wawanesa Insurance Announces New Climate Resilience Centre
The partnership involves opening a new ICLR Climate Resilience Centre in downtown Winnipeg in the months ahead. With this partnership agreement, Wawanesa will sponsor the ICLR by providing office space and operating funds to open a new centre on the main floor of Wawanesa’s former Canadian headquarters at 191 Broadway Avenue.

Interesting, I never knew that one existed.

I always thought the pipeline was under full operating pressure from Gretna to Winnipeg.

Dramatic development in that the man accused of murdering four Indigenous women has pleaded guilty; lawyers will plea "not criminally responsible".

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manit...udge-1.7195215

I imagine this is, first and foremost, a degree of relief for the families. They will know without a doubt who was responsible, and not have to fear a "not guilty" verdict due to a legal technicality or poor prosecution of the case. Whether they feel "justice" would be done by an "insanity" decision of some kind is up to the families, but we'll just have to see how the trial progresses.

I've wondered in the past if the guilty part would be willing to share exact details of where the remains were dumped as part of a plea bargain. Now I wonder if this is more likely? I imagine it would certainly aid any kind of landfill search, shortening the length of time and cost.

I noticed today that Winnipeg doesn't have compost bins (or I'm not aware of it), like others city's that I have lived. Does anyone know if Winnipeg is working on a compost program? Google search seemed to reveal there is a private program and maybe some plans for one in the future.

They have had a compost program in section of the city as a trial. I'm pretty sure city wide roll out was approved in the fall, updated on timeline coming this summer. IIRC they were going to move garbage pickup to biweekly when the green bin program comes in,.

The city sold subsidized composting bins in 2002 and 2003 and had a sellout each time they were offered. From what I could find online they did 8000 bins each year.

Other than cost cutting I don't know why the free bins program stopped.

For anyone concerned, Google Earth just updated their downtown Winnipeg image to one form March 10th, 2024.

Any idea how to update Google Earth to show the new image? I'm still seeing the old image (no True North Square yet).

I use Google Earth, the app or program. Google Maps might not be updated yet. There are some functions that I like better in Earth, and some are better in Maps. I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for.

For the desktop version, go to "view" in the top left corner, then check "historical imagery" and it'll give you a slider to choose different satellite images.
