I was there on a long connector ~3hrs ish.
I went outside for a "breath of fresh air" then realized I could only go back in to eat or have a pint - so through security i went. I Decided to have another "breath of fresh air" before the flight home so I passed through security again. Even though there were no line ups at the time i vaguely remember some mall cop / security gate employee telling me that I couldn't go back out again.

The airport was open at the time but there were various component parts that were still under construction - I was hoping a future venue to pop out of the scaffolds and ladders would be a pre security restaurant/pub. Many times I arranged meetings with business contacts in winnipeg at the old airport pub to make use of layover time.....

Ah. I forgot about Stella's. Do they serve alcohol at the airport location? For some reason I don't think the other locations do, but I could be mistaken about that as well.

And yes, I do believe the Sheraton @ Richardson does have a sports bar or something, now that you mention it.... Perhaps I was hasty in my gloominess.

What I can't stand is, when going to the US, you're supposed to be there atleast two hours before. You go through customs, and sit there for about 1:45, and all they have there is a small Tims and one little restaurant.

And you have to understand that the US border pre clearance side isn't nearly as busy....and actually, IIRC, has shrinking passenger counts.

The 7-11 & Petro Canada is ready to open any day. Yesterday the Pepsi trucks and concession trucks were on-site and today there's guys in red uniforms inside.

for what it's worth, I'm happy they made the building 1/2 decent looking. Brick with black trim windows. no 100ft tall pillar signs.

Monday is the grand opening. I had to sign off on a few things there on Wednesday. I spoke to their store launch person from Toronto and asked about the rumour of Osborne and River to which she said there is no plans for that, as far as she is concerned they are only working on a new one on St.Annes. Then she is off to Toronto for a new one across from the Eaton Centre.

As long as its not a McDonalds, Tim Hortons or a Taco Bell/Shoppers Druf Mart super-expansion, it's all good!

as someone who goes to Regina or Saskatoon 1 x a year to visit relatives, nice to know there might be another option besides Air Canada. Now if only we can get some overseas announcements coming.....

Westjet is acquiring a fleet of Bombardier Q400 aircraft, any short hop or regional flights will utilize these new aircraft. They are nice planes but are smaller and slower than 737s, neither of which matter for short flights.

The first planes will go to increasing frequency on the YYC-YEG run. It will be interesting for Winnipeg, all depends on how much hubbing WestJet is able to coordinate in Winnipeg. I doubt there is a huge amount of O&D.
