It’s quite small and unremarkable from the outside. Unless you were going to the cemetery or the Walmart you wouldn’t have seen it.

What brought you there during the winter? Most tourists go in the summer. I guess the Tyrell is open year round.

Cornell isn't soul-sucking, but it is creepy like an empty amusement park.

I haven't been to Cornell but are those commercial units being occupied or are they hard to lease out?

Did you post the wrong picture? Because while it's not necesarily worthy of praise, that Chambly picture (Jean Casgrain?) definitely has enough room for trees in front of all of the units - or at least duos of units. This could easily be a tree-lined street in 10-15 years if they want to.

More than enough room for attractive landscaping there, including trees.

It's been a while since I've been up there but it looks like most of these storefront have businesses in them (Whenever this was taken).

Given the state of suburban areas in Canada, I'd say Cornell is deserving of at least some praise.

That was my impression when I passed through a while back. Neighbourhood stuff of the sort you'd expect/hope for - medical/dental offices, convenience stores, hair/nail salons, that sort of thing.

What about the depressing species of casino we have in Canada? You know, the cheap imitation of the typical Vegas strip casino that only serves to remind you that you're in some dank box on the edge of an industrial park.

Yeah, shitty slot-machine casinos are soul-sucking. Vegas, without the Vegas. Tax on the mathematically-challenged. Basically one step up from scratch-and-lose, and Bingo.
London has one. I have never set foot in it.

^ The funny thing is that these places are just fucking irresistible magnets for the elderly. Almost every old person I know goes regularly if not downright frequently. There is no other entertainment besides television that has such a stranglehold on that demographic. It is basically the senior equivalent to teenagers + smartphones. I don't get it.

I see no trees and only postage stamp lawns. History tells us that if trees aren’t planted from the outset they hardly ever will be.

Makes you wonder if Les Residences Soleil are just fronts for illegal gambling operations.

Can we nominate hockey teams for this thread? The Flames have sucked my soul out as a fan. Nothing like finishing in 9th or 10th place in the Conference! I can’t think of another team that is guaranteed to lose if they have a 3 goal lead.

Indeed. Perhaps this poor woman has been binned from the gambling operations, on account of having little more than a (pathetic) potted plant to her name.

The Habs have been soul-sucking this year. So much that I can't bear to look at the standings.

Perhaps but that's not the same as having no room to plant them. There is lots of room to plant them there. I'd wager that trees will be planted eventually and that they're the developer's responsibility. That's why none of the owners have planted trees themselves yet. They think they won't have to.

(It's actually the law in many municipalities in Quebec that developers have to plant at least one tree in front of each new house. Chambly is a fairly affluent suburb so it's very likely they have such a rule.)

How's this for a shitty casino? Calgary's Blackfoot casino:

Home to the 2$ brunch and a card dealer who looks exactly like the puppet of Kim Jong Il from Team America World Police.

I admit to sometimes having these thoughts when driving by my city's Casino du Lac-Leamy, but I am not sure if they're justified or not.

There's even a bingo-board on the wall behind her! Seniors just can't get away from it!
