3460 N. Broadway (APPROVED)

I had to blast the architectural changes as misguided at plan commission. Said this is what happens when you have people from the community who know nothing about design and planning have a say.

^^ LOL, yeah it looks like an adaptive reuse of a college dorm from the '60s. Which would be kind of cool if it were true.

Gonna be honest here - I really like 3460 N Broadway. The problem is that we saw something better at first. If we had never seen the original render, my guess is that most of us on this forum would be excited about this design. It's brick in a neighborhood filled with a lot of brick, and with some interesting details here and there. There's a lot of glass. If the brickwork turns out well, this could be one of those buildings that looks much better than the renders. It doesn't have a podium. It's replacing a surface parking lot and grocery store. All of these are pluses. I'm sure most of you would love to see more buildings like this replacing surface lots all over the city.

Thanks rgarri. Not sure if this has been shared before and is a little old but still mostly accurate.

This documents gives some nice detail about the developments and neighborhood (from last april): http://ward42chicago.com/documents/2...ingPackage.pdf

Some apparent recent address changes from the document:

308 W Erie -> W 306 Erie (See above posts, now basically u/c)
301 W Huron -> 311 W Huron
300 W Huron -> 320 W Huron

Also an aerial of 3 parking lots whose days are numbered due to these projects... via https://www.google.com/maps/place/31...!4d-87.6367856

A marijuana dispensary is planned for that vacant Art Deco (English Bar) building on Illinois and LaSalle. That's very exciting news.

Hmm that document model is old (google has updated the map with most of those existing buildings). Great to see some of these parking lots by me getting filled!

RE the weed shop at the old English building. I think the meetings for those are like next Tuesday or something. There are a few different ones in RN being proposed. I have plans, but would love to hear some of the old NIMBY's bitching haha.

I work in the building just to left (north) of the CPS building. Got to see all the marches during the recent strike.

Uptown Theater Renovation Work Could Begin This Summer, Alderman Says

After years of planning and raising funds, work to restore the historic Uptown Theater could finally begin in a few months.

The last remaining funding needed for an overhaul of the long-dormant movie palace will likely be in place by late spring, Ald. James Cappleman (46th) said in an email to residents. Work on the building could begin shortly after that, the alderman said.

This is the current CPS HQ. The former one was on Federal Plaza at Clark/Adams. I believe CPS owned the last building, but this one is just rented space from a landlord.
