Is it just me, or does anyone else seem to notice when one leaves the city limits, the roads have less potholes, and don't remind me of a third world nation, in terms of infrastructure?

Well, most roads in Manitoba are in better shape than in Winnipeg. Hwy 1 in Brandon is horrible (I remember 2022 when it was all potholes in the spring). Last time I was in Brandon I don't remember the road conditions, and I heard they were supposed to resurface it.

Hwy 59 South of 52 before resurfacing made USA feel like a rich cousin to Canada. Thankfully 59 South of Ile Des Chenes doesn't have potholes really, but still bad shape.

75 Southbound needs to be fixed, but progress is being made.

Highway 302 South of 12, a route I take often, is potholes and bumps. It's built over the rat river swamp, so it would explain its condition.

Most of the highways that aren't bad (like potholes) in Manitoba are usually just bumpy. There are rare cases where a highway is smooth (e.g. a Highway that was repaved within 5 years).

Hwy 1 in Brandon has been resurfaced. Great job IMO, nice and smooth!

I love Brandon and there is no reason it cannot hit 100000 people in 20 years

Uh...yes there is. For one thing, growth is nowhere near the levels required. Secondly, where is all the new industry supposed to come from? Thirdly, I also love it but Brandon hasn't grown at that pace for...well, ever.

Is the mine still active? The road looks like it's in decent shape by northern highway standards.

Actually, I'd go as far as to say that most northern paved highways are in as good of or better shape at this point than their southern counterparts. They've gotten hundreds of millions worth of work over the last decade.

I wonder why that is? Would it have been the Doer/Ashton focus of the last decade?

Most of them were pretty bad. I think they saw them as a priority, along with the likes of 1 and 75.

Yeah, as much as we like to complain about the roads in southern Manitoba, the roads up north were in a very primitive state. I don't begrudge the work that was done developing the highways up there during the NDP era.

Sad. The population of the north is so sparse compared to the south. The Government has it's priorities mixed up.

The South, in comparison, has gotten billions over the same period. Since 2006, when the budget was raised, a combined total of over $5B has been spent on Manitoba's highways.
