Just drove down Corydon (9 pm Boxing Day) and it was busy and bustling. Beautiful with all the added holiday lights and bright sidewalks (lamps too bright IMO). Then I turned down Lilac to check out some of the new shops that opened there – it was PITCH black. The few street lights there didn't cover the sidewalk at all, and were very sparse.

Lilac needs sidewalk lamps like the strip. In fact, I'd like to see them on all side streets for the first block in both directions off Corydon (and Osborne) to make the existing businesses feel more safe/comfortable, and hopefully attract new businesses and developments to these side streets.

Noticed in the article about the Toad/Cavern, they cite Brian Timmerman as the new ED of the Osborne Village BIZ. He used run the Exchange BIZ until a year or so ago.

While I never found him the most overly creative or exciting person, it's good to see they got someone who actually has experience in running this type of organization. Hopefully he can bring some stability back – and get the finances back in order after Meilleur was a disaster.

Part of me wonders what a combined Osborne-Corydon BIZ would look like. Keep each area's brand distinct, but combine the organizations. Would likely be a lot more efficient and add some power of size to both areas. Might help better connect them and advocate for a rethink of Confusion Corner.

you can tell someone new is running the OV BIZ! a crew was replacing the lightbulbs in the string lights strung across the stradbrook/Osborne intersection tonight! it's a small detail that has been overlooked for so long, but it's telling of a new direction the BIZ may be headed in...

That is a true miracle. I was starting to think it was a mirage that only I could see that they were still there. Seems like it probably would have been easier, cheaper, and better to just put a new set of LED string lights up, but I'll take it lol.

from FreePress
Derek Collins, owner of Winnipeg’s Poutine King food trucks, has taken over the lease at the former Cavern and plans to reopen the basement bar and live music venue at 112 Osborne St. as The Underground by the end of February.

“I know a lot of people in the industry and they were all disappointed that The Cavern was closing,” he said. “That space has been there for over 15 years doing live music and we just wanted to keep that trend going.”

Collins is a professional chef from Montreal who has established something of a food truck empire since moving to Winnipeg nearly a decade ago. He currently owns four food trucks — two under the Poutine King name, one named Wiggle Chips and another called the Onion Factory."

5468796 proposal for multi-family infill at the corner of Daly and Jessie. Not many windows. Interesting to see what the iridescent metal roof and walls turn out like. They change colour with the light/angle.

Looks like a cross between a vintage acorn fireplace and a range hood.

Looks like one of the CRUs at Osborne/Stradbrook (in the Tokyo Smoke/Strada/Pinkys plaza) will be a Mary Brown's Fried Chicken.

The Osborne Village fried chicken outlet desert that has existed for 20-ish years since KFC closed is finally coming to an end... hurrah

That is great. I live nearby and they have delicious chicken. hand cut fresh, set in a marinade 24 hours..Yes, KFC and for a time A & W had chicken in the area and now this...I am not against mid to upper crust eateries but they have been failing in Osborne Village and Osborne south lately.

apparently AAA consignment (the junk/antique market in the old ice cream place at osborne/gertrude) will be gone by the end of the summer if not earlier.

a big and poorly maintained building. hard to imagine what would go in there.
