I don't have any faith that university can get its act together for that development. Look at what they've built on the land so far. A suburban office park surrounded by parking lots.

I just looked on Google Maps. 18-20 minute walk, 19 minute bus ride, or 6 minute drive (and that's right in the middle of the day on a weekday).

So he's right: It's just as fast to walk than take the bus. It's because the only direct routes take you to Graham and Hargrave, and the only way of getting right to Broadway/Donald is with a transfer.

There is one direct route, the 99, which does the trip in 8 minutes (Stradbrook/Nassau to Smith/Broadway), but it doesn't run very often. I guess Broadway is a surprisingly bad place to live if you want to use transit. Far cry from the days when it had a streetcar line in its median.

That is the worse bus route in Winnipeg. You could wait all day and then 2 buses will show up one behind the other bumper to bumper. Not kidding. And there are 2 99 routes, one to Misery and one to Fort Garry Windemere.

You can get lucky and grab the bus right away on Osbourne, And the connection on Broadway could be there as well to take you to Donald but any miss and your ice cream is melting so might as well walk and get home in 25 minutes tops from the check-out at Safeway.

Only good thing about the bus is you might catch it right away. It might be air conditioned and then you can cut through City Place so ice cream stays solid.
Or it's winter.

Which bus do you take? The 16 or 18 on Graham?

I don't have a watch or phone so I base the time on the time stamp on the receipt and my home kitchen clock so I still have to bag the groceries, get to the bus stop, wait for red lights, and I still have to wait for an elevator in my building.

The 60 preferably, or the 16/18. The elusive 68 is a surprisingly quick way to get to OV too. (And yeah I agree the 99 is almost useless.)

Upcoming Assiniboine Community Committee meeting in September will be considering some "on the fly" changes to the building design, mostly minor. A few extra suites/beds, slightly less outdoor parking, slightly more underground parking, etc.

The overall height is being decreased 9', from 173' to 164' (not including mechanical penthouse). Still at 16 floors.

Edit - latest screen grab from live cam for reference

Also added 3 CRU to the ground floor.

Quote:
3 separate commercial units on the ground floor have been proposed totaling approximately 6,700 square feet. The proposed commercial space per unit is 1,580 square feet, 2,055 square feet and 3,067 square feet. No tenants or users have been identified at this time for occupancy, but the applicant explained that the intended uses would be primarily for students residing in the building.

Sounds like UMSU. I'm curious that old strip mall beside the Summerland tower with UMSU offices and the sushi/pho places... any development on that stripmall section? Or proposals?

^ No public proposals, it seems to me that it will remain as is for some time to come. I'm sure it's a tidy little earner for whoever owns it.

Going up faster than I expected. Working on pouring the 7th floor and starting to frame in the first floor.

^ Feels like it's going up at a blistering pace compared to most new multistorey builds in Winnipeg...

^ Nice.

When was the last time anything north of 15 storeys was built along Pembina? You'd probably have to go back 30-40 years.
