Phoenix = views, trains, and jails.

Quick cruise around town and I found an old abandoned road with places where homes had obviously been demolished years ago. It took me to the top of a peak (1/4 mile maybe) that I didn't realize was turned into the mountain preserve... must be why the homes had been demolished. At any rate, when I got yelled at by the phoenix police helicopter, I got back in my Buick and navigated the busted paved road back down the hill.

From the Jackson Street Parking Garage. I had to lie my ass off to get in here, and then had a long talk with a Phoenix Police officer about why I lied and why I was taking pictures of the jails. I assured him the jails were just in my way of the skyscrapers.

The really awesome place where the homes used to be and I got yelled at from a whirly bird.

I decided to stand in the middle of the street and take some pictures. Nothing hit me, surprisingly.

Managed to get all three... trains planes and automobiles in this one.

Very nice. Phoenix looks surprisingly dense in those first photos, and I like the heat photos effects later on .

That's right up behind the Sunnyslope 'S' isn't it? Haven't been up there in a long long time.

I got yelled at in the Jackson Street parking garage too. Luckily I could pull the architect card and it was a nice friendly lady Sheriff's Deputy.

Nice new angles, especially the 2nd and 5th pics.

I think more pictures would be good (combine your last two threads), but then sometimes when threads are too long I end up scrolling really fast through the pics or just stop looking all together.

Ive noticed that with overly long threads too. If theres too many, people get overwhelmed and don't seem to look and reply. Theres some sweet spot as far as number of photos that make an ideal thread that Ive yet to discover.

The 5th and 6th pictures makes me wish how midtown and downtown were closer together...Phoenix looks dense when those two are in the same picture from that angle...

Could you live here in January when the highs are the mid 60's, in degrees fahrenheit, on average?

We deal with only 3 or so months of extreme temps here, just like those who live in the northern regions deal with extremes too. Ours happens to be heat, in the north, it's the cold and snow and ice. I could say the same thing about living in the north. "How could you possibly live there? I'd freeze to death." But duh, it's technology that makes regions livable.

Im sorry, but it irritates me when people say things like that.

Anyway, pretty good pics vicelord.

Heh. That's where the jurors get to park.

I had grand jury duty for 4 months one time and I'm pretty familiar with that garage. They always stop you when you drive in, but I don't think the cops at the entrance will normally give you a second glance later in the day when stepping into the elevator to get back to your car. So either enter by foot, or enter at 8am if you want to drive in and lie about having jury duty.

So you can't go in a public nature preserve with a camera and a HELICOPTER will call out with a loudspeaker for you to leave?

Sounds facist, is that a Sheriff Joe thing?

great pix. i don't think it's sunnyslope cuz the view is looking at downtown in a more southeasterly direction.
is it near North Mtn? Shaw Butte? i'm thinking maybe the ruins are part of what was the Cloud 9 restaurant which burned down in the early 60s.

you're the second person to guess that today, the other was my dad. I thought I knew Phoenix history as well as anyone but I'd never heard of this place.... off to google in 3, 2, 1.....

ok after extensive googling, I know a lot about cloud nine, but no that is not where I took those pictures. I can almost guarantee none of you have been where I was.
