Do we know when this one might get approved/start construction?

yaletown_fella Jun 12, 2009 5:02 PM

That LED lighting looks beautiful! :worship:

In 2 months.

J. Will Jun 12, 2009 6:42 PM

What? Who changed my title, lol?

It's AURA, not AURORA. Please change it back.

J. Will Jun 12, 2009 6:58 PM

Here's the parking lot it will be replacing courtesty "photopia" on flickr. You can see the "Prime Retail Space for Lease sign". This is just a few hundred feet north of the still-new Toronto Life Square (360,000 square feet of retail in a 500,000 square foot building).

yes, finally a thread for this project!!!! its so awesome

kiwi4life Jun 13, 2009 10:50 PM

so when might this start construction, whats an estimated time? bc i definately hope this one gets underway!

TOBoy Jun 14, 2009 2:40 AM

The building has sold well from what we have heard, but given the economy the way it is, financing is still going to be difficult. There are reports it will begin soon, but most times these dates keep getting pushed back. We'll see what happens come August.

WhipperSnapper Jan 2, 2010 1:07 AM

... a couple more days ...

Complex01 Jan 4, 2010 1:53 AM

Nice...

koops65 Jan 4, 2010 3:06 PM

Thread title still needs to be changed. Aura,827 Ft., 252.1 M

JustinL Jan 12, 2010 12:16 AM

Is this still coming along? Haven't heard anything about this is ages.

CHAPINM1 Jan 12, 2010 2:00 AM

On SSC, it appears that there is equipment on site!

JustinL Jan 12, 2010 5:20 AM

Nice! Well...this, along with the "L" if it is indeed moving forward, will help sustain Toronto's massive skyscraper/density buildup that we've been seeing the past decade or so...even after Ritz, Trump , Four Seasons etc. are complete :)

Can someone please change the name to Aura? It's been mentioned a few times already. Thanks.

caltrane74 Jan 13, 2010 1:49 AM

Title of the thread needs to be changed to Aura.......

steveve Jan 13, 2010 2:13 AM

Yeah... Its a no brainer to give the building the respect it deserves

It's canada's largest condo ever! (and 2nd tallest)

O-tacular Jan 13, 2010 4:41 AM

Wow! Now this is a nice building. Prob. my favorite from TO at the moment.

CHAPINM1 Jan 13, 2010 4:55 AM

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY to see this one finally and actually commence construction!!! :D

Second tallest?

I never realized how huge the planned retail area is. Aura qualifies as mixed- use.

Nice pic, the only bad thing about this project is that I usually get a cheap room by using Priceline across the street at the Delta Chelsea... And this building will block my view if I have a north facing room! :)

But its worth blocking, very nice building. I love the design.

caltrane74 Jan 13, 2010 6:47 PM

Second tallest building under construction in Toronto right now, perhaps....

Duke-Of-Waterloo Jan 13, 2010 7:05 PM

Aura is going to be awesome watch as it goes up. Is it actually "officially" under construction now?

Fabb Jan 13, 2010 7:05 PM

It's hard to see from the rendering, but it seems that it has a slanted roof.
Beside that, it reminds me of Melbourne's Eureka.

My grandma reserved unit before and to avoid seeing the delta, you had to be at least 25 or more floors up (for south facing) to get a a good view!

Delta Chelsea = :yuck:
Aura = :worship:

Aura's roof IS slanted... actually there are 2 slants!

Photo of the model by me (taken a long time ago):

oh ya! i forgot... Aura is mixed use...

I have faith that this building will bring a heck of alotta life to that intersection!

still Aurora at college park?... REALLY?! :yuck:

***I just realized... My biggest regret is not stepping foot on that lot before it commenced construction... It would have been soo EPIC!... damn...

Fabb Jan 13, 2010 9:39 PM

Thanks for posting the model.
Nice top !

F-ing nimby.

steveve Jan 13, 2010 10:57 PM

I really like how this building complements the shops of college park!

If you look at the upper level of the podium, the roof matches the roof of College Park next door...

Buildings these days should be designed that way  !

Still Aurora?

Spoolmak Jan 14, 2010 10:42 PM

This is my new favourite Toronto project.

Awesome construction work at the site!

The site has transformed from empty parking lot to construction site SOOO fast!

it seems like just yesterday that it was still a parking lot!

caltrane74 Jan 18, 2010 4:53 PM

So long as the weather remains nice im pretty sure construction will continue at a nice clip....

This will probably be a very deep dig, along the lines of Shangri La and ROCP 1/2....

WhipperSnapper Jan 18, 2010 5:38 PM

This should proceed quite fast as it seems only half the site with be excavated at a time with the College Park loading dock in the middle

the site looks MUCH bigger depending on where you're standing... Like from Yonge/Gerard... the site looks huge! but from the air, the site actually isn't out of the ordinary... This building looks really BIG from the renders (chunky, tall)... either way, it's gonna be sweet!

excavating will take a while... by this time next year we'll be thinking about foundation work and moving up! (i would expect it to reach ground level in a little under 2 years.. 1 year for groundbreaking, 1 year to reach the surface)

correct me if i am wrong :)

caltrane74 Jan 18, 2010 9:22 PM

If the site is twice as big as we thought, then this one will take a while to excavate, then coupled with the depths they'll have to dig to reach the foundation base...

This building will be a beast...

CHAPINM1 Jan 19, 2010 3:13 AM

The site is so big that I would easily be willing to bet that it will be at least a year easy before this one even reaches street level. Anyway I'm just grateful to see that this project has finally commenced! In the meantime we can see how much soil and ground up shitty blacktop gets dug out at the site. Also, we can watch the other big hitters including Trump, Shangri-La, and the Four Seasons continue construction! :D

I'd say much more than a year... groundbreaking alone will take some time and considering how big the podium/retail space is, it should be some time...

Anyone suspect how many cranes we might see?... i would thing there would be 1 crane for the podium and 1 crane for the tower... then midway in construction they would remove the lower crane... i dunno  ...

The overall site is large however, if they take a two step approach as in building up on side with a temporary ramp, remove the existing ramp and build up the other side it won't take as long to build up to grade.

In any case, I doubt it will take a full year to excavate the pit. Shangri-la didn't and this one isn't nearly as deep. They likely won't have to blast through shale either.

Fair enough :)

I just can't wait for this thing to go down then up! (that sounds really dirty for some reason :haha: !)

The final project will take a while though... we can expect 3-4 years for this one...

caltrane74 Jan 20, 2010 12:34 AM

yikes, one year to get down, and another year to get back up....

thank goodness for Trump, Shangri La, and Four Seasons to keep us occupied until this one gets interesting.

probably a year and a half till it reaches ground level!...

By then, Trump should be topped off, FS should also be topped off, and shangri-la could be topped off too!

Gresto Jan 20, 2010 5:43 AM

And don't forget, we also have Ice, U, Burano, et al, to keep us occupied.

yup... Burano for sure...

but it'll still be a while for the other guys to excavate then reach the surface.. but at least we'll have many projects a go!
