Locke Street (Hamilton) -- The next Gay Village??

Locke Street South can be found in the Durand Neighbourhood of Hamilton, ON.

Very Vibrant, Open, and Caring neighbourhood with lots of specialty shops (including the highest concentration of Antique Shops in the City) and the BEST Bagels in Hamilton (at the Locke Street Bakery).

And with the increasing Gay / Lesbian couples moving into the area, and the ever-increasing number of Pride Flags & Stickers in the storefronts; this just may be Hamilton's 1st "official" gay village.

Here we go...

Very nice. Many antique stores on Locke, it's doing very well, there are shops upstairs and downstairs in these buildings. I heard it used to be a biker hangout.
Here's a view down the street:

Nice job DC!

I had pictures of Pride flags of homes around Locke St but I can't find it. There are a lot of gay couples moving into the area and a lot of them do a nice job renovating these Victorian houses.

That building which used to be Lights Computer for Apple computers closed down

Would be perfect for a gay bar!

OMG hahaha Steeltown, you read my mind.
I've been saying for months it should be a gay bar -- call it Sanctuary! HAHA

But there are homes RIGHT behind it. So the Neighbourhood Association would never let that pass! (especially if they didn't let West Town Bar expand to have a patio beside that bldg they just bought).

Went there the other day, so could see myself living there, not sure I could afford to. My Mum liked the tree lined side streets with the fall colours.

Looks nice, but needs more rainbow flags. :D

(it's colorful here in Boystown, Chicago and also in the Castro in San Fran)

Hey, another straight guy! How are you? I knew there must be another one around here somewhere. ;)

Let's see, spa? Check. A few cute bars? Check. Cute market, flower shop, salon and something political? Check. Looks like a boystown to me. Or a girlstown, the one market was all natural.

Evergrey Oct 26, 2008 4:11 AM

that's a great lookin' gayborhood!
