2028 Canada/USA olympic bid
 

I dont know where to put this so thought this place would be best

So it looks like Vancouver ready to jump into the spot light again
But looks like we dont want to do it alone...we are asking Seattle, USA to join us in a joint bid

Will never happen. I don't think the IOC would even let it happen.

I heard something about Denver gunning for the 2018 Winter Games and thought that it would be too soon after SLC 2002 and Vancouver 2010. 2028 would be alright, and Vancouver-Seattle bid would be interesting...though really, either city could host it by themselves. However, there would be too many issues with travel, it seems logistically impossible.

well Montreal is looking to do the same thing with Lake Placid in new york for the 2022
plus i dont see why not the olympics is about countries coming together how better then to have two countries host together

also with travel arent we looking to build a high speed rail between the cities lol

The summer games are so massive and costly that I can see such joint bids becoming common by then. However, the last time I heard anything about the Van-Sea joint bid was in the mid-90's, before the 2010 winter bid was solidified.

I hope Toronto gets it in 2020, though. SO, if they do, there is no possible way.

In 2028 Vancouver will be a vastly different, and bigger city. But... capable of hosting a Summer Olympics? That's for the much bigger boys :P

This should have been posted in CE so more could see it. They're also planning to upgrade Amtrak from Eugene to Vancouver (BC) to HSR for these (potential) games.

Well, a Vancouver Sun article is referenced in that Wikipedia and it's dated 2006. I think they're obviously waiting until after 2010 to really look at how Vancouver handled the game and see where to go from here. What I find interesting is that article also said they're in talk to jointly pursue:

- 2018 World Cup of soccer
- a world's fair around 2020 or the 2028 Summer Olympics

Wonder what's going on with those bids now. Pretty big goals there :haha:

However, it is interesting to note that there are already two joint-countries there bidding for the World Cup together. So this may be a trend for future bidding as costs for hosting such event continues to rise.

Don't see Vancouver anywhere on there. Besides, it won't be fun because we won't even win one game in it :P Normally, we wouldn't even qualify but host nation automatically qualifies... :haha:

A FIFA World Cup bid is a huge no:

1) World Cups are held by NATIONS, not regions. A Vancouver bid would also see every major Canadian city as host cities. We wouldn't be bidding with Seattle.

2) FIFA greatly disliked the Korea-Japan 2002 arrangement and have said they will never do that again.

Let's not forget we also need, outside of competition venues:
- Training facilities for, possibly, all of these sports (There are training facilities for all the winter olympics sports, so I think they are needed for summer too)
- Olympics village (This is going to be, like, 10x bigger than our winter Olympics village)
- Media centre (This is also going to be super massive and the Vancouver Convention Centre + Canada Place won't be nearly big enough)

and, umm... probably a lot of other miscellaneous things I'm missing. Yeah, it's going to be massive and I honestly wonder if we got the space for them all within acceptable travel.

1) We don't even have enough stadiums to host the World Cup, so yeah, it's not going to happen until maybe 2050+ :haha:

2) Yeah I've heard of that too, so I don't have any hopes we will win any joint World Cup bid. Either way, I go back to my first point about Canada's lack of stadiums. So yeah, not happening for MANY years.

On the bright side, what's his name will have probably kicked the bucket by 2028.

The scale of the Summer games is almost unfathomable.

1.8 million tickets available for 2010.

8.7 million tickets available for 2012.

Can you imagine it being 5x bigger? You think Robson St. is busy *now*! We'd have to replace the Canada Line with a real train. :uhh:
