The architecture of this one reminds me a little bit of a cheap version of the Montevideo building in Rotterdam.

I like what Rotterdam has been doing lately. I do hope we get something like this^, even if it has to be a bit cheaper.

^Second that. Damned overdale...been keeping us waiting since the 70s!

New renders. Stunning in my humble opinion.

Stunning indeed!!

This is a high quality render. Now, provided they dont use the same materials as the Louis boheme, this should be a stunner, regardless of the height.

agreed, the materials will make or break this one. i still remember walking to work when the first prefab slab was being delivered for the louis bohème... it ruined my day when i saw it.
what i'd really like to see would be black (or very dark green? would be a nice callout to cibc up the street) marble cladding. of course, not gonna happen. |
There are other nice and creative options than marble or granite. Here's a nice idea of Jean Nouvel for example.

I'm sorry but it's getting late over here and I don't master that kind of material vocabulary. Quote:

Well, I hate to bring you the "bad" news, but Overdale is, in fact, a project by the same team who did Louis-Bohème, which, despite its shortcomings, is a very nice building. At least when looking at it from the east.

i actually love louis-bohème, by far the nicest tower built in montreal in my lifetime. not saying a lot given how awful our value engineered towers are, but still worth noting.
|

I think in the next 10 years mtl skyline will change quite a bit :)... all these 120m towers will make a huge difference especially in aerial photos... i don't even want a 250m tower... i like these 120m - 150m towers.
|
I agree with G.S. Montreal. Let us gain a few dozen 120-150m towers and densify the core. Right now, downtown doesn't need height, but more highrise density. Looking at the skyline from the Peel Bassin makes this quite obvious.
|
yeah, and a concerted effect to repair the damage to the street-level wrought by several decades of catastrophic development policy and a history of failed social housing projects and mafia-backed proposals. there are so many empty lots in the downtown core that i avoid certain streets entirely (parts of bishop, mckay, city councillors, mayor, union, virtually everything between rene-levesque and saint-cath from guy to lorimier, the ville-marie/craig stretch, the list is nearly endless). we fix those in a way that creates consistent streetscapes and rebuilt retail walls, and we're going to have an amazing city, like once we did.
