It's now confirmed internally that the 2 undelivered painted WS 787 frames are not coming. If they get more, it will be new frames or used frames from elsewhere, so it's gonna be a while.

WS is currently struggling to operate the currently planned 787 sked with the current 7 frames.

Therefore, there is zero chance of transatlantic service from YEG by WS for the foreseeable future.

More of a wish than anything, but LGW would be an ideal destination for YEG at some point in the future.

First inbound from ATL about to land. Loads are good. Shame about the lack of pre-clearance on the eastbound (because redeye), but it's nice to see it launch as daily from the get go.

^ Would the Atlanta hub allow easier connections to South America?

Certainly more options, but Toronto still has a decent allotment that permits you avoiding the US.

Better than nothing, but it's not ideal as WS gets you to ATL in early morning.

BOG would be perfect, but EZE/GRU/GIG/SCL all leave ATL in the evening. LIM is mid-afternoon.

For deep South America you're either sitting in ATL for 12+ hours or better options could be YEG-MSP-ATL-EZE or the dreaded cowtown routing of YEG-YYC-ATL-EZE... or maybe a YEG-DEN-IAH-EZE type of thing. Damn YEG really needs IAH back.

In any case it's just a long routing in general, South America timing is rough for Albertans no matter what.

^ Thanks.

Sounds like IAH would be the preferred Hub - hoping for its return.

Cold is right about YYZ; by far the best option for GRU is YEG-YYZ-GRU or YEG-YUL-GRU on AC. The YYZ flight continues on to EZE as well.

IAH is the one key missing link right now and from another site has the highest number of underserved passengers by destination apparently.

Great to hear. We are flying with KLM next month. They have great service and a seat sale on now - even their business is reduced by 50% to some cities.

Dang! Well, dang for me. Hooray for everyone else flying from Oct 27 onward.

I'm flying back into Edmonton on KLM a week beforehand. Would have been nice to have proper pods versus the old bus class seats in the old 332.

Great news for Edmonton, though!

Is there code sharing between WestJet and KLM on WestJet flights to YEG? Would this help in filling the extra KLM flights

Well there is code sharing but it's a one way street so to speak with only one airline and of course its not WestJet. You have to book your ticket with KLM to connect through YEG to get to Europe and to connect through YEG to get back home. KL has put it's code on WestJet operated flights. WestJet does not do the same.

As for the upgraded schedule that is quite a jump in seats per week. I'm surprised but it is great news. I'm assuming KL's 330's are finally going to be retired.

^ Yes I am seeing that by for example booking a flight from Fort Mac to AMS. There is still the prevailing option of connecting through YYC while some days we do see the second option as connecting through YEG. Maybe this will change in some way with additional code sharing on Westjets side. Or possibly the tweaking of connecting flight schedules to feed more traffic for these additional KLM flights. In this way KLM gets more passengers to fill its new flights and WestJet gets more traffic on its domestic routes to YEG plus still keeping its own long international flights based in YYC.

There had to be discussions between KLM, WestJet and EIA on this.
