It hasn't been a crown corp since the late 80s I believe. If it were a crown corp, BHP wouldn't be able to launch a hostile takeover, since there would be no shares to try and buy.

A previous provincial conservative government back in the day sold it off.

Here's what it would look like in our skyline when finished. It's not much taller than the twins. Also, we got our new tallest to the left, which will be taller than this tower when completed..

Courtesy to Nathan for the render!

Saskatoon is ahead by a good 10% of Regina's population...and it's been ahead for about 20 years now. Does Regina simply have more head offices??

Saskatoons metro area is also 3 times the land area it goes miles out into the rural area Regina cannnot do that because Moosejaw has its own metro area , Moosejaw has some 36,000 souls , it is 41 miles from the Queen city , it is a beautiful little city.

There may be another office tower on the way , along with Capital Pointe , the canterbury tower , Regina is on its way for some highrise fun , CP is having a demolition party on sept 29 , then construction begins.,the city is a happening , it has lowest unemployment rate in the country as of yesterday.

I'm very excited to see this project go up. I've been waiting years for a new tower in Regina and it looks like we'll see two more in the next few years.

Sadly, I cannot watch this in person as I had to move up to Saskatoon for school.

This is a little off-the-topic; however, they began stripping down the 'late' Plains Hotel this past weekend. The neon wx (weather) tower is gone.

That corner already looks different without the neon wx tower!

10% when you consider cities the size of Regina and Saskatoon isn't really all that much.

And yes, I would say Regina has more head offices. Saskatoon has Potash Corp and Cameco being their two largest (both of which began as crowns before being spun off)...

Regina has pretty much all head offices of the crown corps (although Saskatoon does have some office, but mostly on a regional level), as well as Co-operators Life Insurance Company, Viterra, FCC (large federal crown), and soon to be Mosaic Potash.

Regina also had the benefit of the Hill Family. During the time that Regina had a much larger population than Saskatoon, the Hill Family was very prominent in development and they got quite rich from it... That wealth has given them the ability to continue to be a large reason for development in Regina. Saskatoon to my knowledge never had such a development group/family with a loyalty to their city. At least I don't remember hearing of any while I lived there for the first half of my life.

Any way, good for Regina!

How's the Saskatchewan Oil Industry doing? Do any oil companies have offices in that province (either in Regina or Saskatoon, or elsewhere)?

It is a beautiful building and will make a great addition to the already beautiful skyline of Regina.

Did I read right that the building is approx. 200,000 sq. ft and will cost approx. $100 million? At $500 per sq. ft, that seems awful high. Have construction cost gone up that much in Regina? I have to wonder what the rent will be in order to get a decent ROI. Anyone know?

There isn't really anything in either city. Saskatchewan oil business, as far as I know, is run from Calgary. Maybe with the increased development of the Bakken play we will see more of a presence, but until then, who knows. It's also a toss-up as to where such offices would be stationed, arguments could be made for both Saskatoon and Regina. Regina, does however have the large Co-op refinery just to the Northeast of the city, which is currently undergoing an expansion/upgrading worth over a billion dollars.
