I noticed too that unusual care was taken to keep existing trees on many of the lots. That's quite a bit different than most developments where they rip out all the trees to make construction more convenient.

Thanks all.

Some great mixture of the old and the new! And, of course, excellent photos as always!

How so? Being forcefully amalgamated into Hamilton so now residents have to foot basically a large part of the bill (and have the highest property taxes in Canada) for the not-so-wealthy rest of the city and receive nearly nothing in return? Yeah, sounds like benefiting handsomely to me...

Nice pics.

The neighbourhood looks a bit like a ghetto to me.

More than made up for by tax cuts for the upper middle class. Also many residents of Ancaster enjoy area-rating so they don't have to pay for "Hamilton" things like public transit. But they got a new town centre and library, and a new fire station courtesy of Hamilton taxpayers.

So beautiful! I mean I prefer the dense neighborhoods of northside Chicago over neighborhoods with big mansions & spacious lawns, but regardless I think this is a very attractive area. Nice.

Many of these Ancaster homes are new builds anyways. The size is... well... large, but the soul is missing IMHO.

Like flar said, Dundas, Kirkendall and Durand especially have so much more to offer than any areas in Burlington, Ancaster, Greensville, etc... IMHO.

I guess it just depends what you're into. For some, size does matter...

Always great photos, flar; thanks!

You're doing a great job of showing the Hamilton area to the world. Thanks for taking the time of taking and posting all those pictures.

Here's something to think about: what makes a McMansion a McMansion? Are gaudy Victorian mansions McMansions? How old must a McMansion be to be a McMansion? Will modern McMansions stop being McMansions as they get older?

That's a good question. I think some of the quality builds will survive the test of time and become treasured examples of this period's architecture. Some of the houses pictured here are really nice, high quality homes, while others cut corners so people can have the biggest house for the buck. These poorer builds will become dilapidated and rundown and will be demolished or divided up into cheap apartments, just like many Victorians were.
