Great pics, but that article about regulation getting in the way of private investment in green tech just makes me

Read the article. You have a private company, ConEdison, preventing the microturbines from getting installed in buildings because it would hurt their bottom line!!

Sometimes those things have to be fought for.

...and so much higher yet to go! When we look back on the construction of this tower, after all the other proposed supertalls for mid-town have been put up, we'll see that this was just the opening volley in what will be a virtual fireworks of construction that transformed the face of New York more than it has been since the Jazz Age.

So far I'm really disappointed in the glass. I've been patiently trying to give it time to fill in more and more, but it continues to reinforce my first reaction: Too milky and not reflective enough. I also really dislike the overspray-esque whiteish banding... which may be better with a bluer tint, but this looks pretty green. And it does the opposite of complimenting the milkiness IMO. I was hoping the style would change towards the upper bulk of the tower, but it appears it will continue all the way up. Those combinations of details make it look less glassy and more like some kind of strange paint job.

These are just my observations based on photos -so far- and I haven't seen it in person. I hope it looks better in person because the renders just blew me away and now I find myself less and less excited about it as I keep losing faith that it will look anything like the released images.

The glass seems to really reflect the daylight around it. Gloomy days make for gloomy glass, and sunny days make for bright blue glass. I like sunny days.

That's exactly right. And this one came about so quietly, it will grow like a spire from nowhere. Even the people who regularly hang out in Bryant Park will look up one day and say, "where the f*ck did that thing come from?"

That kind of slope is very unusual in the streets of NY.
Forty years after Big John, NY is finally getting bold.

This building is looking better and better to me. I know some people really do not like the glass, but i like it thus far. Once we start seeing the facade abover the facets, I think people will start ot like it better.
