Crane Erecting the Larger Construction Crane

A view from my balcony last Saturday. The smaller crane is installing the taller construction crane. 10th street was partially blocked for 2 days. Coincidentally 10th & Market was partially closed the same day as a large crane was brought in to delivery the airconditioning equipment for Market Square across the street from the 10th & Market development. I can only see the arm of the big crane when it is turned east.

Walked by again today, and I can confirm fflint's good eye. The crane is up on site:

Here are some other pictures showing the week's progression on the foundation:

YIPPEE!!!!! Looking forward to watching this one rise up. It'll be great to finally see a new addition to the Civic Center Skyline. One that's over 300 ft.

Great shots, Rem! I can see it's a little deeper than I first thought -- perhaps enough room for two levels of underground parking. I can't believe how fast they've gotten that foundation in. I guess a lot of the excavation was taken care of with the previous building's demo years ago, but still.

Hey Jerry, perhaps you should build some kind of boom for photographing the site. I'd hate to see you slip while leaning out over your balcony for a shot!

San Francisco's on a roll!
Trinity and Crescent Heights will make this area very dense in the near future. After the construction bust of the past 3 years we are finally back in the game. I suspect 535 Mission will rise shortly.

^And there's always 55 Ninth St right between those two that might get started before long. BTW, welcome to the forum!

Peanut Gallery - Your comment got a big chuckle from me. I do make sure I'm secure when I lean over to take my pictures. It is frustrating to not be able to see the whole site. I need to make a friend of someone on the south end of the Fox Plaza!

Reminicense - great pictues - the site is often a challenge to photograph because of the shadows.

Thanks guys! The site is pretty challenging as Jerry said, I tried to get a decent amount of light in each shot to capture as much detail as possible. The rate they're going, it won't be long before this one is out of the ground! I'll probably stop by this week to check up on it.

Thanks for the great photos everyone. They're making some really good progress with the foundations.

I was taking the bus home late in the evening (around 9pm) last week and saw lots of flood lights on and a handful of workers still moving around the site. It seems like they're really trying to expedite construction here.

I walked up 10th street this morning, b/c they've had 3 of 4 traffic lanes shut down all weekend, so I figured they must up to something. They are installing a 2nd construction crane, middle of the block, possibly slightly closer to Mission than Market. Also, looks like they have poured the foundation, but only where the rebar was laid from the last pics. Around that area, they dug a bunch deeper but haven't done anything else yet.

There is now a second area of heavy rebar activity, around mid-block of 10th street. interestingly, in between the two rebar areas, they still appear to be digging down. I wonder if that is where the garage will be located. Either way, this project is really progressing quickly.

I'm really looking forward to this complex being completed, but I wish that the Market Street building were going to be taller. They're cramming a lot of short residential floors into it and someone posted previously that the rental apartments will be a rather pedestrian product. Let's just hope that the buildings are attractive and look as good or better than the renderings. That certainly was not the case with Argenta across the street that was dumbed down/VE's twice.
