I did photon mapping, medium. I think I figured out why it was black, but for now, here's another black one:

you need to turn the shadows on in SU before you export it to not get the black background

If you ever forget to turn on shadows in SU, you can always add a new sun under the 'Settings>Sun And Sky' option.
