GDANSK, Poland - proud host city of UEFA EURO 2012

The city lies on the southern edge of Gdańsk Bay (of the Baltic Sea), in a conurbation with the city of Gdynia, spa town of Sopot, and suburban communities, which together form a metropolitan area called the Tricity , with a population near 750,000. Gdańsk itself has a population of 455,830 , making it the largest city in the Pomerania region of Northern Poland.

Gdańsk is Poland's principal seaport as well as the capital of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is also historically the largest city of the Kashubian region. The city is close to the former late medieval/modern boundary between West Slavic and Germanic lands and it has a complex political history with periods of Polish rule, periods of German rule, and extensive self-rule, with two spells as a free city. It has been part of modern Poland since 1945. [wiki]

This June the city hosts 4 games of the UEFA Euro 2012 competition.

Thanks for the pics!

I´d like to visit Gdansk. It looks very pretty, with very nice buildings. It reminds me to Prague, maybe. It must be a very pleasant city, but these days with Uefa Eurocup.

I´ve liked to see spanish supporters in your 8th picture. Go Spain, go!!! We´re in semifinals!!

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

#6 is my kind of town! I like the perspective on that last pic. Is it a really large ball or was it just the angle?

Amazing, my pores can almost feel the summer ambiance there. Wish I could fly to Europe right now.

Slight correction; 750,000 is just the combined population of the three core cities (excluding the suburbs). The entire metropolitan area (including the suburbs) is > 1 million.

It's just the angel. The ball was a gift by some really pleasant Irish fans.
