I don't hate it, but it doesn't look the prettiest. Kinda like the back of an old ship.

Both N Street and L Street are the asses to Capitol Mall buildings... N Street more so from 4th St. to 10th.

Thanks for the info GoFerrari27! I was wondering why they were treating that part a little different from the rest.

I am not too crazy about the back either; I tend to think it would have looked better if the glass/granite went all the way around the back like it is on the sides. But the angles do give it character and least it looks better than the back of 621

Hey Mike -- if you get to tour 500 this week, try to take some pics from the scafeling at the very top of the spire! LOL!! I am jk -- but talk about a great view!! I don't know how those workers have the stomach for that; must be a lot of alcohol! LOL!!

Here are some updated pics I took today while downtown. The glass is almost finished and you really have to admit this buildings looks a lot like it did in the renderings -- though I am not a big fan of the back side of it. I can't wait to see it when all the glass has been installed!!!

Wow, tremendous shots innov8. All the recent rain makes for a nice, clear view. As the building has come together, my only real complaint is that little glass box that sits behind the spire on the roof. The integration looks odd from any angle you can see it

Skyscraper porn! Glad you got the hookups with the right people so you can bring us these shots.

That's the first I've seen of the central plant expansion too.

Hey great shots once again Mike!!

Yeah that floor (or room?) on the top does look kinda odd; is there any chance that on top of it will be a Helicopter Pad???

Doesn't look like there's enough room for a helipad on top.

It's not a helipad. When we decided to go with a high speed elevator system for the upper tower floors, we ended up needing more clearance above the elvator equipment and hence "the doghouse" as I call it was necessary to do so. In the end I think it will look fine as the flag pole will be mounted on top of it.

The very top two levels are mechanical and elevator equipment, but 25 and 26 are designed to be used individually or jointly as office or restaurant spaces.

It's a really great view up there.

Amazing shots, innov8. Is that the location for the railyards development in the fifth shot?

Yeah, that's it. Just on the north end of downtown.

Another law firm picks 500 Capitol Mall
Sacramento Business Journal
Friday, November 14, 2008

The Bank of the West Tower at 500 Capitol Mall has landed another long-term lease by a top Sacramento law firm.

Somach Simmons & Dunn signed a 10-year deal Nov. 1 for 15,000 square feet on the 10th floor of the tower, now under construction, and will move in by September, said Russell Gallaway and Greg Levi, the brokers who handled the transaction. Sources estimated the lease is worth $6 million to $7 million.

Managing partner Michael Vergara said the new tower is beautiful. “We looked up and down the mall, and this one is best suited to our needs.”

McDonough Holland & Allen PC, Sacramento’s second-largest law firm, had already cut a deal to leave 555 Capitol Mall on June 1 for the 25-story tower at 500 Capitol. Other firms are in talks.

Downey Brand LLP, Sacramento’s largest law firm, moved last month into the brand-new, 25-story U.S. Bank Tower at 621 Capitol Mall, the other big, new office building vying for high-profile tenants.

Somach specializes in natural resources and environmental law. It has 20 lawyers and about 10 staff, and ranks No. 19 among the top area law firms. The new offices have room for seven more lawyers, and the firm has an option to expand.
