Denver Architecture....and then some!

I visited a friend on Memorial Day weekend and since I hadn't been to Denver in about 12 years, found the city remarkably different. It has a clean, safe and walkable downtown with plenty of beautiful parks and great bike trails. There are several bike rental stations (think Zip-Cars) around the city...who knew there was such a thing...no doubt helping to contribute to a very fit-looking population. I was amazed by the number of medical marijuana clinics (the smell of pot smoke was a several times a day ocurance) and the lack of diverstity seen on the streets. I hope you enjoy the tour as much as I did.

Thank you very much for your amazing pictures!

I´ve got surprised watching them. I didn´t know Denver is a so beautiful city, and now I´ve realized. I´ve liked the variety of your pictures, and the architecture. I´ve liked the landscape too. It´s wonderful.

Neither, I didn´t know that Denver is placed a mile above the sea level. That is a high altitude. It´s surprising!

I think Denver is the perfect city to live in, surrounded by mountains, beautiful buildings, very green, quiet, etc.

Congratulations and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Always nice to see Denver through someone else's eye. Nice shots of around town. Looks like your friend lives near Cheesman.

Denver is a great city; I like the whole state of Colorado, in fact, except for the winters.

Depends on where you're at. In the mountains, winter is always sure to be rough and snowy, but in Denver and on eastward it often times is a different story.

I love this shot! Yes Denver is awesome, and yes I am biased because I live here! I'd still love it, though, even if I didn't live here.

Don't deny the harsh winters. Yes, there are warm sunny days in Denver in January, but it also snows once a week from October to March. It's often light fluffy snow that melts within a day or two, but it's still snow. No matter how you shake it, it does snow in Denver with much more regularity than most Americans are used to. The winters ARE cold and snowy.

It's a great climate the rest of the year though, I agree. I don't care how high the thermometer goes in summer, there is no humidity so it never gets very uncomfortable. 100 in Denver is better than 80 in the midwest, south, or east coast.

He's about 1 block away in what seemed to be an ideal location. If I had that view, it would take a pretty good reason to get me to leave the house.

I read that Denver gets about 60 inches of snow per year puting it nicely between Chicago's 38 and Buffalo's 93.

Thanks for the comments...Denver is a fantastic city and I hope to return soon.

60 inches of snow is very misleading though. Whereas Buffalo and Chicago are cloudy almost all the time, we get 300+ days of sun per year, so, you'll have a two foot dump of snow, but it will all be pretty much completely gone (save for shaded areas next to buildings, perhaps) as the next day, temps are likely to be in the 50s or 60s (average high in the coldest month is 46F). Winters here feel much warmer than I can ever remember on the atlantic seaboard or the great lakes. Then again, there is usually a couple day cold snap of sub zero temps, but, hey, that's why you dress properly - you wont be cold! Basically, it's easily, hands down, a better climate than anywhere in the Northeast or Midwest. No bugs or humidity in the summer, either. Also, you want diversity, head down Federal (heavy Mexican and SE Asian populations) or out to Aurora (everyone, from Carribean to African immigrants from all over), and Russians are spread throughout, though obviously might not stick out to you. Shoulda gone up to Five Points and grabbed some bomb soul food!

Nice photos. Denver's skyline looks pretty outdated and kind of blah. I feel like those same three towers have dominated the skyline for decades. It would be nice to have some new towers thrown in the mix. Any plans for that?

Denver is interesting in that it is a Midwestern city but has somewhat of an east coast look to it.

Would love to visit again soon!

You need to see it from the other angle. The south east view of downtown has added only slightly more. The west side is where change is apparent and sexy. I'll add a pic soon. Or check out the awesome Denver/Boulder photo thread at the very least.

And we in no way associate with the Midwest. We consider ourselves Front Range or Mountain West if anything.

A little misleading, as last winter was a snowless freak. Here's more info from the same source that, when compared to that table, shows that by several indicators last year was very close to the record lows for snowfall.

Earliest Date of First Snow: September 3, 1961
Latest Date of First Snow: November 21, 1934
Average Date of First Snow: October 19th

Earliest Date of Last Snow: March 4, 1887
Latest Date of Last Snow: June 12, 1947
Average Date of Last Snow: April 27th

Greatest Seasonal Snowfall: 118.7 inches 1908-09
Least Seasonal Snowfall: 20.8 inches 1888-89
Average Seasonal Snowfall (1971-2000): 61.7 inches

... And even then, if you look at that table and add in the "trace" days to the days where snow accumulated from last winter, you get 39 days where snow fell in Denver, which is 21.5% of the time, or about 1/5. That averages to more than one snow per week over the season, even in a freak light snowfall year.

Certainly last winter was a light one for Denver. But the pattern is generally the same year to year: mostly mild temperature days, and many days in a row with no snow.
