Trust me just get you an xs. its solid and affordable. youll get what you pay for. id suggest new on the motor. you might stay away from used until you can purchase with more confidence.

I thought you were looking for a digital SLR? Neither the Xi or the SX30IS are SLRs.

Ideally,

I didn't notice if this camera is an SLR with removeable lenses. If it's not, then it's the wrong one.

Tony has a good point. Xi and XSi are not the same camera. On ebay check the buyer info. It will clearly mark that it is a dslr and also usually give you specks on the lens if it comes with on.

Megapixels

I have a camera that only has 1.6 mp, but it takes good pics.

Why are the megapixels important, and what's the least amount I need in a camera for professional-looking photos? I know the more MPs the more expensive the camera.

It must be a digital antique with only 1.6 mp. The pics may look good in small size but if you were to blow them up then they would look pixillated.
If money is an issue, used digital cameras with way more pixels than yours can be had for cheap.
A professional would want a full frame sensor which point and shoots don't have and at least 12 mp.
Have you posted any pics here with your 1.6 mp camera?
If they are good, let's see them!

Some pics would be nice. Good advice on the full frame and 12mp. I'd say 10mp is a minimum now a days. Cropped sensors are bad either but this kind of stuff might be passed your current level. You can google cropped sensor and read up.

I will post one when I'm at my laptop. I don't have my pics on the pc I'm using right now.

Yes, it is an old camera. The pics look good on my computer and when I print them out on 4x6, but as you said, if I enlarged them, they would look dull.

So I will look for a camera that's at least 12MP.

For most purposes even a 6 MP camera is sufficient. Megapixels is generally a marketing gimmick to entice people to upgrade or overpay what they actually require. My last camera was a Rebel XT with 8 MP. Never had a problem with resolution on it.

That said, most modern cameras will likely be 9 MP and up, needless to say, 9 MP should suffice.
