You really should not let your politics cloud your mind. The folks and their kids on the Southside in Chicago are probably spitting them out just as fast. This is a rude statement on my part, and i do apologise...along with spitting them out on the Southside, I bet their forking them out too...but hey, I will always vote for choice.

This is absolutely fascinating. I have no idea what "small American towns" in general look like - it's funny how I've lived in suburbs and major urban centers here and abroad, and pictures of my own country suddenly make me feel ignorant and small.

Neither looks really nice. Wasilla kind of looks like 100 mile house with bigger mountains in the distance.

That's certainly a beautiful area that Gov. Palin calls home, although I think Palmer looks better than Wasilla overall (like some others have said, too many strip malls there). Thanks for sharing the pics with us

OMG I just noticed the Wasilla Police Department is located right next to Arby's!!! Wasilla has as many Arby's as San Francisco does! And one more Target! I LOOOOOVE Arby's!

How come ATT gets naming rights when we taxpayers bought Wasilla the $27,000,000 sports complex?

I'll bet there aren't many wolves and moose still alive in the vicinity of Wasilla.
I wonder if they even have a Humane Society or ASPCA in that town.

Nice Pictures. Thanks.
I would freakin do that! that's amazing!

er... I mean, isn't it bad to have a sprawling property or something?

but seriously, I would buy that. I mean, as a second home, anyway

For some reason I feel like I'm watching an episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor while looking at these photos. Oh wait...I know why.

so, is Wasilla effectively a suburb of Palmer then? people leave the nice surroundings of Palmer to go shopping at the Target in Wasilla, then return home and think, "That was hell" only to go check out the train and then go back to Wasilla to buy more shit a few days later?

Pretty much yeah that's how it goes. Palmer has no big-box stores at all, although Wal-Mart has been fighting Palmer officials to build a store for a couple years now. Fred Meyers (a regional version of Wal-Mart/Target) opened up shop in the town, but city officials required that the Fred Meyer store only sell groceries and electronics.

By the way thanks for the replies everyone. I always appreciate it when forumers take the time to write back

To answer some questions, Wasilla is the 4th largest city in Alaska after Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. I believe it was Rudy Giuliani who thought it was the second largest. As for why the Sportscenter is named for AT&T -- I actually don't know. I'm guessing they're footing in the maintenance cost.

And yeah, frankly Wasilla is not a city any Alaskan romantices about. For a long time Wasilla has been the whipping boy of Anchorage as Anchorage residents tend to connect Palmer/Wasilla with the redneck stereotype. In more recent times, I'm just beginning to learn that Wasilla may actually be the whipping boy to Alaskans in other towns as my brother knows others who connect Wasilla to its stereotype. Longtime jokes include "All I saw" (Wasilla backwards), and Wasiphillis.

I cant see the pictures

I always thought Wasilla to be some urban sprawl, ugly, strip mall area built by retards that have no appreciation for aestetics, the environment, their fellow neighbors, and want a selfish life to live. Pretty much like all suburban areas, and the fact that some neo con comes from there.

All the comments made me feel I was right.

By the photos, is this a real small town that she is so proud to come from, or is this another Moronville, PA?
