Not the easiest site to photograph. Shouldn't this be moved to the U/C section now?

The 'mystery crane' site. No signage to indicate what it is, and nothing on Cahill or Peck Hiller websites to clairfy.

^^^The mystery crane site is the 10th & Mission Family Housing project. It's on Cahill's website, although it's a little hard to find:

There are a number of previous posts on the "mystery" 10th an Mission site including the renderings but also some pictures I took last summer when they were excavating.

They're starting in the corner of the lot furthest from Market and 8th, along Mission between the existing building and SOMA Grand. I'm not sure if this part of the development is reflected in any of the renderings. I can't pick out any reference points in the original three to tell exactly where each is supposed to be. And the ones that PBuchman added on the front page of this thread only show the Market and 8th Street faces.

As peanut gallery says, this building is poorly seen in the renderings but I think it's the tallest of them and is probably being built first because it's on land where they won't have to tear any of the existing structures down to build it. That's important because they promised not to evict anybody--so they'll build this, move everybody in the building facing Market into it and then tear that one down and build its replacement. Then finally they'll move folks from the remaining buildings into the two new ones, tear down what's left and build the remainder of the project. At least that's how I read the plans.

Thats great news. After seeing this one on the proposals section for so long, it will be nice to see it going up.

I recently saw a project sign posted on the Mission Street fence with an aerial rendering, and a 2010 completion date. Sorry, I wasn't able to get a picture of it driving by. Maybe someone else...?

Here's a rendering that shows what I believe to be the building now under construction--it would be the one to the right of the stairs:

The sign SFView mentioned, and it confirms that BT was correct:

So we now have a rendering of the first building:

They are moving right along. The hole is noticeably larger:

I notice the rendering shows a three-lane street between Trinity and SOMA Grand. I wonder if a new road there is part of the plan, if it's just access for parking, or simply creative license by the illustrator.

^^^Don't know about that, but most of the folks at SOMA Grand better enjoy their views while they have them.

On reflection, I suspect there will be an alley between Trinity and S.G. that connects with the alley running behind the Federal Building giving it an outlet. It's not 3 lanes wide, though--maybe 2 (one for parking, one for access).

Yes, that's the sign alright. Thanks for putting this up, peanut gallery. Now it looks like the tallest of the bunch will go up first - great!
