In the mid 1980s my grandpa managed to gain a pass to Sevastopol (next to impossible to get back in those days), so we went there for a summer vacation. I must've been 6 or 7 years old at the time and aside from the panorama, the memory that left the biggest impression was seeing an aircraft carrier in the distance on our last day there. That must've been one of the most exciting moments of my life up until that point. Thanks for rekindling those memories and for the great photo thread!

I'm glad to see this thread once again. I don't know why I didn't notice it before, but this time photo #10 made me catch my breath, as I flashed back to watching Sergei Eisenstien's "The Battleship Potemkin" more than 40 years ago. The photograph reminded me of the scene of the massacre of demonstrators by Tsarist troops on the Odessa Steps.
