Some Strip pictures . . .

The massive Yards project:

Oxford's office building and the 2500 Smallman "city homes":

I was just struck by how much the Strip is filling in--this is Lot 24 on the left and the Oxford office building in the background:

I think those were condo buildings not retal apartment units.

In person it seems huge. I suppose in part that is because it is not obvious where the river edge cuts off the parcel, but in general it is an enormous lot and the cores seem pretty tall. Not a surprise, I guess, but there is a big psychological difference between 3 and 6 stories.

CMU's mixed-use project is drawing a lot of developer interest. It would be nice if they went more coolest than cheapest with this project, working with a developer that want to makes this project a calling card:

Quote:
[Pelusi] expects the project will generate 10 to 14 responses and expects JLL will work with Carnegie Mellon to narrow down the field to from three to five finalists fairly quickly. Pelusi expects the Carnegie Mellon project to offer a strong way for developers, many from out of town, eying Pittsburgh to make a strong first impression here. “There’s a lot of developers that have been looking at Pittsburgh,” he said. “But this is a meaningful way to get into this area.”

I did not realize how this project will impact S. Craig Street. This could become a new destination hot spot for the East End.

Been driving around town today trying to avoid the rebel flag wearing Kenny Chesney rednecks and have noticed the city has most of the bike share station set up with bikes already so that's cool.

Pardon my ignorance but is this a different project from the new student center? How many large projects is CMU doing right now?

Two large projects on both sides of Forbes Avenue. The former PNC Bank drive through site incuding the ravine adjacent to the Carnegie Museum. the other site is where the former Gulf gas station site and its adjacent ravine. The two projects will revive a dead zone between Pitt and CMU

But also there is a $90 million hall being built right now.

And what about the student center; Is that a different project?

So is that 4 seperate projects or is it 3?

Those two (Scott Hall and the Student Center), this one, and Tepper Quad make four, I believe.

OK, that's what I thought. 4 transformative projects. CMU is blowing up! Not to mention the recently finished $100 million Gates Center. Great news for Pittsburgh's most prestigious community.

Another article on flipping:

http://www.post-gazette.com/business...s/201505170067

As long as they are investing in upgrading properties this can be a positive dynamic, but it also supports the view that affordable housing is going to start disappearing in more and more central and/or well-served-by-transit locations, unless we are building enough new units to stay on pace with demand.

This is a great article. I briefly met Joe Calloway at the Shiloh Grille two weeks ago. He had vision, talent and it the cream of the crop for Pittsburgh renovations.
Also I am about to start attending ACRE meetings. Another guy who worked his way up and is becoming a top name in Pgh RE.
I love it!
Add another name to that list: Austin Daniel. As I continue to learn, I plan on becoming one of the "well known" names in local real estate development; Investments and my dream of becoming a prominent local develop as a force for good for Pittsburgh's future.
Only large, important goals are worth pursuing. You only live once, make it count!

Well they've started to tear down those three beautiful historic buildings on Forbes for the Point Park Playhouse, pretty despicable. Does anyone know if they plan on tearing more than those three buildings down for their crap playhouse? I'm looking at 333 Fourth Avenue and it appears to be abandoned and it's right next to the playhouse and it's also quite beautiful.
