Almere is really unlike any other Dutch city. Whereas most of them have plenty of historic buildings, you won’t find a single building that is older than 35 years in the entire city.
Located on the newly reclaimed land of Flevoland (draining was finished in 1968) the first house was only finished in 1976.
Since then it has been the fastest-growing city of the Netherlands (primarily due to its proximity to Amsterdam 25km/15mi to the west) and is now the 7th largest Dutch city with a population of approx. 195,000.

In recent years the city center has experienced a huge building boom and Almere is now home to some of the most unique buildings in the country.
