Decatur Illinois / Peoria Illinois

This is more of a Decatur thread, than it is one on Peoria, which I didn't have much time to explore.

Peoria:

I couldn't help it. I saw a lot, but had little time to pull out my camera.

It's SRL, so I can't take it everywhere I go. These were taken between assignment.

What the hell. Since when was Illinois considered a southern state lol. That flag should be illegal anyway as a public symbol as we all know.

Nice to see some photos of Decatur. That's in a part of the state I've never explored. Thanks for the great pics.

I'm guessing the picture below was taken from the near Fondulac Drive area on the bluff in East Peoria. My sister lives there and has almost this exact view from her living room.

Decatur is a fairly tense (racially) community for its size. I thought that captured some of that tension.

I've seen one of two Peoria threads here, and the two pictures at the beginning are of higher quality (IMHO) than the previous threads on Peoria.
So... although I would have liked to see more of Peoria (Bradley Park area, Water St, Prospect Ave, more downtown) this is OK.

Bump, I was searching for downstate Illinois threads and found this. I lived in Decatur for a good part of my childhood years, my dad worked for Caterpillar and had a job transfer there and thus my immediate family were Chicagoans in exile from 1986-2004, well actually me only until 1999 when I started college but I can comment. When I lived there in the 1990's I don't remember seeing confederate flags, I have heard some rumors that the place has become more right wing since the time I lived there. Then again my family didn't socialize with the local rednecks much, we mostly interacted with the Catholic population via our local parish and that bunch was quite moderate and it was a union town at least in the 1990's. We also spent so much time traveling to and from Chicago including me spending half the summer with relatives in the city that I might have been pretty sheltered from whatever extremism might have existed there.

That being said seeing that kind of stuff disgusts me. I mean for fucks sake Illinois is the Land of Lincoln and Decatur even tries to play up it's ties to Abraham Lincoln. So it is kind of strange to have ties to the ultimate unionist and yet have a confederate flag at the same time. I am perfectly fine with normal people who live downstate, fond memories with some of them, but the wannabe confederate rednecks, fuck them, I hope they all leave Illinois and self deport themselves to the redneck hell hole of their choosing.

^ Looking back at my comment from 2 years ago, there is something I said and noted that all of you are missing. I said,

"What's up with the torn up rebel flag?"

I find it noteworthy that the rebel flag is torn up and the American one is in perfect condition. Before we all go around condemning Decatur for its rednecks, it would be interesting to look into that and determine if that is intentional or not. It could simply represent that person's pride in the union defeating the south a long time ago. Who knows?
