it has two hinged sides that roll open. it's a bascule bridge when closed, there is approx. 75 feet of clearance for boats. when open, there is about 140 feet.

here is the entire bridge now! you can see the draw bridge in the center when it turns to a metal span instead of concrete on the freeway. when a large ship comes through, it will roll open. as you can see, there are some small and medium sized ships coming in and out of the canal (ships from 3d warehouse).

the city has opened the entire bridge system to the public. now people from the suburbs can get to the downtown faster so better things will happen now.

in a way, it's a bridge within a bridge within a bridge . the freeway is like one super long bridge then there's the Ekana Bridge (the cantilever) and then the draw bridge.

oh and don't for get the Adams-Onis Bridge that goes to beachside! lots of bridges!

more soon, and a building boom is underway!

I am taken back with your progress. Your city is begining to turn out to be the best one made yet in my perspective. The detail and most of all that bridge is amazing. I cannot wait to see more.

ARGH I HATE YOUR CITY!!!

LOL, I just hate it because it makes me feel so inspired to make another Sketchup city but two problems:

A) I'm not at my computer
2) I don't have the creativity to build a city
IV) I just am not a good 3D modeler *sigh*

Anthony

Two problems: A, 2, IV.

I love your sense of order!

the bridge spires certainly are odd looking! i realised this after i made them. here they are up close. they may be edited in the future, but i can't delete them. they serve a purpose to weight down the concrete pillars under them. the pillars hold up the freeway. the heavier the pillars are, the more weight the bridge span can hold.

well i guess not being at a computer is a problem, but the other two aren't! i believe everyone has creativity in their own way. some people just have wierder ideas than others . also, you will get better at modeling. i used to be a horrible modeler also. i am still not that great! you get better over time though. good luck if you start another.

i believe the "wallaby" look from before was when the bridge had no support inside? when it was just the frame?

well here is a quick update! i'm on a building-making-spree right this hour so i'm going to try to design and construct as many buildings as i can. basically, i'm trying to get the most done in as little time as possible.

first one here is the Anizari World Plaza:

a new tallest by spire!!! Anizari is an international electronics company based in Japan
