summer solstice in portland, oregon

set your alarm for 4am. sunrise is officially at 5:21, but it starts to get light by 4:01. the official sunset is at 9:03pm, but it'll stay light till after 10. long day ahead. the longest, in fact. soak your skin in the sun. eat a chocolate-peanut butter canna-cookie. let it ride. let it loose. say hi to that pretty girl, she just might say hi back. take a deep breath. breathe in that portland air. smell it and taste it as it warms slowly from spring to summer. this rose garden is fragrant, boy.

Thank you very much for your pictures from Portland, OR!

Very good introduction and beautiful pictures. You´ve captured the light very well. It´s fantastic, like it must be to spend summer there.

I´ve liked the sunset photographs, and that mountain snow-capped. It´s fantastic to see so much snow in the beginning of summer. Flowers and gardens are spectacular too.

Bright colours, good sharpness...

Congratulations and greetings from Madrid, Spain!

Beautiful set -- love those sunrise shots from 5:21 a.m.! And nice job on the 'Columbia River' sign ... from a moving car?? You got a great angle on it.

dtpdx: yep, from a moving car. i think this was the first time i've crossed the columbia on i-5 riding shotgun, so i had my 200mm zoom ready to go, and we were in the center lane so it worked out nicely.

pallo: i shoot with a canon 5D and 4 lenses.

thanks very much, everyone.

This is the first summer solstice I've missed in Portland. Man, everytime you come out with these awesome albums I miss home to the point where I get sad. But it's a nostalgic sorta sad..

feels like summer. I'm always amazed at the light & color you're able to capture in your early morning/late afternoon shots. Awesome set all around

Seems like summer's a beautiful time of year up in Portland. You really do a great job of capturing that essential summer feel, that "vibe," in your photography, and that's something I've found not many photographers can do. Once again, great work.
