Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi & Halong Bay - Vietnam

Jumping back to Southeast Asia for a second, here are some photos from my time in Vietnam. Like the title says, I visisted Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Halong Bay, sadly missing Hoi An (why do all these cities start with H?). So much to love about the country, the food was incredible and incredibly cheap, the people all very welcoming. Ho Chi Minh was modernizing at ramming speed, new towers and developments everywhere. I've never seen more scooters in one place in my life. Hanoi was a bit sleepier and felt a little more Chinese in the culture and the architecture. Halong Bay was a tourist trap but definitely worth seeing; stunning natural landscapes. Shortly after I left one of the tourist boats sank killing some of the travelers and crew. Will definitely be heading back if I get a chance. Enjoy:

man you really bring these far off places to life. i really have a hankering for vietnam -- it's sort of leapfrogged to the top of my international travel list, after some friends spent a couple weeks there on the serious cheap and having gotten acquainted with a little vietnamese culture (but mostly the food) in my neighborhood.

excellent work as usual. the night shot of the scooter lights looks like a bowl of neon noodles.

Thanks all.

^ That photo is a microcosm of Saigon. People squatting in the street, knock off (probably) designer clothing, primary colored plastic chairs scattered about and onesy-two-piece-jammie outfits that everyone wears over there. The kid spitting was just a bonus.
