What are the oldest subway cars still active in your city's subway system

Here in Montreal, half of our 750 subway cars were put in service in 1967. They still work fine, but require more and more maintenance, so they will be replaced within 5 years.

The 1959-60 M3 cars have been retired from The El for ten years now which leaves the B-IV's (1983) on the Broad Street Subway the oldest cars on the system.

They've still got the old school loop radio antennae on the front.

Atlanta, GA MARTA - CQ310 type cars, 1979. Built by Franco-Belge (went out of business). The cars are currently being rehabbed by Alstom in Hornell, NY along with the CQ311 type cars made by Hitachi in the late 1980's.

DC still uses most of its original 1976 cars, though they've all be rehabbed and look identical to newer cars.

Except for very minor exterior details that you have look pretty hard for, all our cars look the same on the outside.

On the inside, the new cars and the old cars that have been rehabbed have red and blue seats, while cars from the 80s that haven't been rehabbed yet have tan seats.

I believe all of Cleveland's Red Line cars were purchased in 1984 and there have been no new cars since (there are some very old line/non-revenue cars that have been rehabed, i.e. 60+ years old). The oldest cars would be the Green/Blue line cars that date from the late 1970s, but many have been rehabbed and I believe GCRTA has purchased some cars since then on those lines.

Hamburg: DT2.5 type from 1966 is the oldest still running. DT2 design by Hans Gugelot dates back to 1959. Handles protrude from the doors, passengers need to use muscular force to slide them open.

Vancouver SkyTrain

SkyTrain Mk1 train set (in operation since late 1985)

Photo taken by me August 28th 2007.

SkyTrain Mk2 train set (in operation since 2002)

Photo taken by me August 8th, 2007.

Vancouver took delivery of this modern train set in 2002 with the opening of the SkyTrain Millennium Line. SkyTrain is a 49 kilometre long automated metro that connects the downtown core of Vancouver to its suburbs. It is fully grade separated with the vast majority of the two lines being elevated while a couple of kilometres are underground in the downtown core. The first line, the Expo Line, was opened in late 1985 for the world's fair held in Vancouver. SkyTrain uses Canadian-developed linear induction motor technology for propulsion, has steerable boogies, and is completely automated.

Very nice train! No operator, leaving a nice window for commuters to see the tunnel!

But how old are they?

I forgot the difference between light rail and subway cars.
