Anchorage, Alaska - igloo metropolis

So uh.. being one of the two resident-Alaskans on this board, I figured we better keep our street cred up around here... just thought I'd share some of my favorite snapshots of my favorite city.

btw as promised to Ex-Ithacan, I'll do some "walking" around midtown this spring

6th avenue.. pretty quiet

looking down G street.. it's a good street

view from the airport. Yes, it's Ted Stevens International. No, Ted Stevens is not dead.

midtown as seen from downtown

Ship Creek just below downtown

yeah not everything is hunky dorey and pretty around here..

Delaney Park Strip. John Paul II had mass at this spot 25 years ago

view from Government Hill.. my retirement neighborhood

4th Avenue

ciao.

Keep repping your city, mthq. I really enjoy seeing it. It strikes me as a bizzare city every time, though. But, not in a bad way, necessarily.

Hey, do you think you could do a tour of some of the residential hoods, sometime, and the more historic structures of the city?

BTW, what's that under construction? I remember reading something about a new convention center, or performing arts center.

A town that has always intrigued me and considering how isolated and the relativly small population it seems impressive physically as well. I also would love to see some residential neighborhoods.

thanks for the replies guys!

LMich, I'll see what I can do. Though the city is not even 100 years old, there are indeed some neighborhoods and historic buildings worth noting.. thanks I hadn't thought about that!

oh and as for the construction, that is indeed the new convention center which broke ground in early summer.

GR2NY - I can't say the scene is large, but there is indeed a fan base. Bone Thugs and Harmony are coming up here in January.

Hope it's not been too cold up there for this time of year in Anchorage lately?

Would be great to provide some contrasting shots of a street without snow and a city with it. You guys must get several feet a year.
