Shenzhen is the first special economic zone in China, and lies just across the Hong Kong to the north. Growth has been very impressive, and now skyscrapers are starting to appear all over the map in Futian, their newly-planned CBD. However, the bustle of urban activity remains around Luo Hu, the busiest border crossing with Hong Kong.
First, the area around Luohu.
1. A taste of Shanghai in Shenzhen.
3. This mall looks just like any in North America.
17. Did you know there is an observation deck atop Shun Hing Square?
19. Their subway logo is the same as Hong Kong's with one more vertical line. The MTR Corp. did some consultancy work for Shenzhen Metro, hence a lot of the furnishings are similar.
22. Shenzhen is undoubtedly greener and more spacious than Hong Kong. It was a nice contrast to walk along a major thoroughfare without the crowds.
24. This mural used to be right outside Luohu station, but has since moved here. Deng Xiaopeng pretty much brought Shenzhen into existence, so he's fairly well respected around here.
28. The only thing I had to complain about is weather. It has been a fairly foggy week in the region. Well, it's better than smog.
Got 'em now. The construction of a new huge city in such a short time span is amazing to say the least. While not a fan of all the scrapers, there are some dandy ones also. And I love the landscaping too. Guess I better get to part two now.
