I'm anxious for more retailers to open in the new buildings around the plaza. I have been told that Starbucks is going to have a great patio just to the north of the built-in stage.
Starbucks now has two blade signs up on their space. One is in the plaza, and the other is on 3rd Street. The coffee shop is scheduled to open on Monday.
There are two downtown 7-Elevens. However, neither are urban stores. They both have gas pumps and they sit on the fringe. We do have one urban store along West 7th Street, approximately 2 miles to the west.
It's a great public space. Last night, they lit the city's Christmas Tree right in the center. I did not attend because it was about 30 degrees and there was quite a bit of wind. We are having a rare Pre-Thanksgiving cold snap. However, it's going to be around 60 degrees by Thursday. Our annual Parade of Lights is the next day.
Amazing pictures. I know that area well. My family used to operate a jewelery store in the ground floor of the old Westbrook Hotel right on the corner of 4th and Houston. Later they operated a catalog discount store where The Cassidy is being constructed at 3rd and Throckmorton. I can remember when downtown FW seemed to be withering on the vine. The Bass family bought the land and building at 3rd and Throckmorton way back in 1989 or 1990. They have been developing the Sundance Square concept for a long, long time now, and it now seems that they were way ahead of the curve in seeing the potential for a revival downtown.
FW also had another major architectural unveiling this fall, the completion of the new addition to the Kimbell Museum. It would be nice for one of the FW forumers to post some pictures of the museum complex here on SSP sometime soon?
Yes, the Renzo Piano Pavilion opened at the Kimbell over Thanksgiving. I was going to get over there to take pictures, but I got busy at work and with some personal things, so my only free time was way after dark. I do plan to get over there to take pictures, but we now have had an ice storm and I missed work on Friday. I will have to make that up and any other time that is lost due to the weather. It's only 35 degrees now and the inch of ice is not melting very fast.
Starbucks opened on November 18th and the Bird Cafe in both the Land Title Block and the Commerce Building opened right before Christmas. Taco Diner has started construction on their space inside The Westbrook and so has the Silver Leaf Cigar Bar in the Commerce Building. This leaves two lease spaces unfilled on each end of The Westbrook facing Houston Street.
I did get by the Kimbell Museum to take some pictures of the new Renzo Piano Pavilion and the original building.
