I'm going to be in Coppenhagen in a couple days. Where should I go for the best modern architecture, pre-war architecture, and pure urbanism? Oh, and if you have any food recomendations, that would be cool Thanks.

Hi there - good choice

Copenhagen is very decentrilized and modern development can be found just about everywhere outside the Old Town - but it's most concentrated in the districts of Kalvebod Brygge, Islands Brygge, Ørestaden, Sluseholmen and Tuborg Havn..

I suggest you check out my other thread for more coverage of the areas in question and others that might be of interest: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=129330&page=6

Regarding food - hmm.. traditional Danish food is very rooted in the rural past of the nation - often heavy meals with lots of meat ( we are the world's most meat eating population on a per capita scale ) especially beef, chicken and pork..

The most traditional dishes is the "Flæskesteg" ( pork roast ) and the Smørrebrød ( openfaced sandwished on ryebread )

There's also a lot of sea food in our diet, though not as much as there used to due to overfishing...

Overall traditional Danish food isn't especially good - though I will recommend trying Smørrebrød

Danes themself have adopted a lot of foreign food, especially Italian, Middle Eastern, Indian and Chinese.. and it's rare to see traditional Danish food being cooked by young people outside of the holydays where it's tradition..

But if you do want to try Danish food I suggest one of the outside cafe's at Nyhavn where you can get a good Danish meal, good Danish beer and a good view...
´
As for Urbanism I can not recomend the districts of Østerbro and Frederiksberg enough - but any district outside of the old town will do - many tourists makes the mistakes to stay there and think they have seen it all - they couldn't be more wrong..

Also DO NOT SPEND TIME ON THE LITTLE MERMAID!!!
It's a crummy little statue whom tourists for some strange reason seek in huge numbers and always walks away dissapointed from, Copenhagen have 100s of better statues than it! the habour area it is located in is nice, but the statue is crumme, so if you really insist on seeing it, do so as part of a habour cruise, do not spend hours on it as it will not be worth it!

Hope that answered some questions - feel VERY free to ask if you have others

Basic advice:
-don't fear PT ( while not cheap it's fast and efficiant and can get you everywhere - and you can use the same ticket for all kinds )
-don't fear time of day ( Denmark is safe and you can walk any street and ally at any time of day without having to worry )
-respect traffic lights ( Danish drivers don't expect jaywalkers so won't look for them - even if you don't get hit you risk getting fined )
-don't tip ( all in Denmark is payed a good wage - world's highest - and no one relies on tips as we don't have that culture )
-buy tax free ( as a foreign national you can save the VAT - ask in shops that has a "tax free" sign in the window.. )

Kalvebod Brygge for today

I just realized that I forgot to thank you for your help with my trip to Copenhagen! So, thank you. It truly is a great city, and one of my favorites in Europe. And don't worry, we didn't go to the Little Mermaid.
