Exclamation "Var är festen?"

-SEATTLE-

Here are my attempts of the pictures all of us have seen before. Now, it's a short thread, with a little over 20 pics, but they were just experimental shots. Once I get the hang of it [night shots] then I'll make my night threads a little longer.

PS: This was the first time I went to Kerry Park in all my life! Even though I've lived here for half my life!

As much as I hate the I-5 for breaking up Seattle's urban fabric, I gotta say I love it when I'm on it driving south. It breaks up the drive and gives me a chance to view that bankable Seattle skyline.

Great snaps.

Really? I always liked I-5. I think it's because the it creates a barrier between "home" and "work" and at night it's awesome driving on it looking up at the building. So is the Alaskan Wayy viaduct. The view from the top level is amazingg. I wish I could go up there one night to take pictures, but I'd end up getting ran over so I think I'll stick to the sidewalks for now.

Mee too! It's one of the best buildings in Seattle imo. Along with the Smith Tower of course, and the Pioneer Building.

No. I'm actually Mexican. And I've never been to Europe, let alone Sweden. I just liked it I guess.

Thanks everyone. But I gotta ask you guys for tips. I've been trying to take better night shos for a long long time. I have a D40X and it's not the best camera in the world but I can work with it. I used ISO 800, shot all on RAW, I used Photoshop Elements to edit my pictures, and I used Aperture settings.

My biggest drawback is that I can't get the colors right. Since the noise in the sky is too much, I try to make it darker but that also makes the skyline darker and makes some of the buildings disappear. Like the Columbia Tower! Maybe I should take the pictures when it's a little more sunny outside, like at sunrise or sunset.

What you need to do is to shoot your photos around dusk (also known as the blue hour). This leaves a bit of light in the sky, but it's late enough to have all the buildings lit up. The blue colour will help outline and define the skyline. Another good time to shoot at night is when there is low cloud cover. The lights from the city bounce off the clouds giving you a backdrop in which the buildings can stand out.

Also, there's no need to have your iso so high if you have a tripod. Keep it at 100, but raise your aperture. I usually like to keep my aperture for night shots at f11 or above. Doing this will help sharpen your photos.

Here are a few examples:

I hope that helps!

ahhh... I'll try that. I'll try to get some shots when it's lighter out and I can edit the colors without having the buildings disappear. My aperture was on f13 on some pictures but I also used f22 and f32. I also tried using shutter speed but it didn't work as well as Aperture. Thanks for the tips Giallo.

Added a new shot too. This one was taken yesterday. It's the second-to-last one [AKA Rocket to the Moon].

Gonna watch Quarantine now!

My entire time here I've thought you were Norwegian. The "She'll wake up" shot is amazingly dreamy. Love it.

Haha... no... I've been full Mexican since... since I was conceived I guess... Unless my dad is actually from Africa and my mom from Asia and I was just conceived in Mexico...

Anyways, thanks for the compliments! I was actually not going to include the "She'll Wake Up" [which is a phrase from a song] shot because I didn't like the skies.

I love 'em. To be honest, I clicked on your thread because I know you have the same camera and lens as I do.. and I must say you do a better job with them
