Seattle - now with boats!

This little tour of Seattle will (probably) be in three parts. Comments and corrections are welcome. Enjoy!

View of downtown from West Seattle.

Columbia Center in the middle (tallest in Seattle) and the Smith Tower to the right.

The Space Needle.

Elephant Super Car Wash.

The Space Needle.

Pacific Medical Center, home of Amazon.com.

Qwest Field with the Olympic Mountains visible in the background.

Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team.

Olympic Sculpture Park.

Love & Loss.

Father and Son sculpture.

The Schubert Sonata sculpture with Puget Sound in the background.

Typewriter Eraser, Scale X.

Eagle.

Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard control the access between Lake Washington and the Puget
Sound.

Nice pics!

Too bad, though, that Seattleites are a bunch of Satan-worshipping Bolsheviks--otherwise I'd live there in a heartbeat.

...er, wait...

Am I the only one that likes the drab weather? I think it's part of the NW appeal. Great shots.

Nice pics!

It's cool to see the Ballard Locks...supposedly has the mildest winters in all of Seattle. You can't really tell in the pics, but all sorts of exotic subtropical plants flourish there that can't survive the winters elsewhere in western WA.

No you're not. I actually enjoy gray damp days here in Chicago. I'll take that type of winter weather over arctic cold any day.

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

@Okstate: Personally, I prefer sunny weather, especially for photo sprees, though I certainly don't mind a few clouds breaking a monotonous sky and once in a while, it's' just nice with rain.

@Urban Zombie®: Heh, then you're gonna like/hate a few pictures in the next set.

The Carl S. English Jr. Gardens next to the Ballard Locks have some beautiful flowers.

The largest Lenin statue in the USA stands in Fremont.

Small stores in Fremont.

The Fremont Rocket.

In Greenwood stands a strange elephant. For years some of the locals believed it was a real
elephant.

It used to belong to a flower shop and was therefore known as the Flower Shop Elephant, but
the shop has since closed. The elephant remains, however. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/12184

Broadway Performance Hall.

The Jimi Hendrix statue on Broadway.

View up Pike Street with City Centre (also known as US Bank Centre) dominating the view.

View up Union Street with Two Union Square in the background.

Seattle Public Library by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

Another view of City Centre with Rainier Tower to the right.

The Rainier Tower has a really strange base and is referred to as the wine glass by the
locals because of this.

1001 Fourth Avenue Plaza (Safeco Plaza) with the IDX Tower to the right.

Old and new. The Pioneer Building and Columbia Center.

The pergola at Pioneer Square.

On Pioneer Square stands a replica of a totem pole stolen from the Tlingit Indians in Alaska.

Some more nice photos!

But eek! Fremont needs to plant some trees. To me, this doesn't look all that inviting to be out & about walking. I just don't like plain old concrete & asphalt, no matter how much of an attempt there is to spruce up the look of the buildings. They need trees or plants or something. This is the Pacific Northwest, afterall.

^^ Thanks, OhioGuy! Yeah, I guess they could use a few more trees there.

Occidental Park with more totem poles and the Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

The Harbor Steps.

Seattle's most disgusting tourist repulsion, the infamous gum wall.

The mono rail runs between Seattle Center and Westlake Center.

Another view of the Space Needle.

Super Duper thread!

Wow, that city has a lot of sculptures, crazy buildings, beautiful architecture, a unique look, and yet clean with a funkified vibe to it.

I really got to get there.

Thanks for the excellent thread.

Seattle is one of the most photogenic citys. With water all around you can not help but get great views of the city. The view from Gas Works park is sweet. Great work Denver Dane!
