Cold Spring, NY //a trip up the hudson via metronorth

This past weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to head up to the Hudson Highlands for a little getaway from the city. We stayed at a b&b in quaint Cold Spring, only a little more than an hour away from Grand Central Station. Here are some shots of the village and nearby nature/hiking shots. I'll start you off with some views from the train ride...

below is the West Point Foundry

this cup found itself a long way from woodside...

can you tell I like tunnels?

Breakneck Ridge

you can see Cold Spring off to the left

Bannerman Castle in the foreground

we stumbled upon these awesome ruins while walking some of the trails

the next thing we found was this well filled with huge bullfrogs. there's no way they could get out, so we concluded they must have been living there for generations in an enclosed ecosystem, feeding on the plentiful insects.

Thanks for sticking around to the end!

Great set! Unmistakably sabotai, and yet a very different feel from your New York threads - I enjoyed it a lot!

Wonderful photos. I traveled up and down the Hudson Valley between Albany and NYC back when Amtrak still used Grand Central, and a friend who lived in Manhattan used to talk about Cold Spring. I've wanted to see it, and now I know why he loved it.

For my money the Hudson valley may be the most beautiful part of the US. What a combination of natural and man-made beauty!

I've done that exact same hike up Breakneck. If you can tough out the first 30 minutes, the rest is golden. Great tour of one of my favorite towns.

Wow, this thread makes me homesick. I've driven that road cut into the cliffs many times. West Point is nearby. The Hudson from Cold Spring to south of Albany is probably the most beautiful section of river in the US IMO. And obviously the hiking is incredible. Very nice!
