KIRKUK, Iraqi Kurdistan | Development thread

First i would like to write a brief about kirkuk's history

Kirkuk is currently a dispute city between Kurdistan and iraq whether it should stay under central or to be annexed to Kurdistan via a referendum by the Iraqi constitution article 140 to be held in a close future by the people of Kirkuk. it has been a kurdish city since it was first establish by the kurdish tribes called Guti . Kirkuk holds 10% of Iraq's oil hence the former dictator Saddam was ethnic cleansing the kurds kicking them out of the city and replacing them with Arab settlers.
Kirkuk a Kurdish city since the era of the Guti (ancestors of the kurds) . There are Turkmen who came to kirkuk during the ottoman empire first in 1055 from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan . Arabs from Salahadin Province also started migrating to the city after oil was first discovered in 1927 , They started settling in the Hawija sub-district in Kirkuk province. There are also some Chaldean that live in the city which are very small in number . one after another the former iraqi governments took kirkuk's oil and used the money to destroy the city kick out the kurds and replace them with Arab settlers from mid and south of iraq , many kurds wish kirkuk didn't have oil because it would have been part of the KRG by now.

The city is controlled and administrated by Kurdistan however it is not official. there is the constitutional law article 140 whether to join the autonomous region of Kurdistan via a referendum. its not the oil the kurds are after there are plenty of oil in the 3 provinces (45 Billion barrels of oil)but cos its a city formed by Gutian ancestors of kurds 2400 BC.

KAR (Kurdistan autonomous region)

those disputed blocs colored in blue are all kurdish cities and 90% of their residents are kurds but were isolated from Kurdistan by Saddam for their oil reserves

KRG (kurdistan regional government)

Kirkuk Intel’ stadium under restoration

15/02/2011 11:02

Kirkuk, Feb.15 (AKnews)- A member at Kirkuk Provincial Council said Kirkuk International Stadium requires 22,000,000 U.S. Dollars to be refurbished.

Yarigai HraDilshad Pirot, the head of the projects committee of the council told AKnews Monday the vice president for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Nechirvan Barzani, proposed for restoration of the stadium and demanded the council to suggest the cost outline for the project.

The outline has been sent to the related bodies in Erbil for scrutiny and now work has began , Pirot said.

The KDP is one of the two major parties in the Kurdistan Region, northern Iraq. Massoud Barzani, the president of Kurdistan, is leading the party. Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi president, runs the other Kurdistan major party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

So far, the political parties take their budget from the Kurdish government. Systematizing the allocation of the budget to the parties has become an increasingly controversial issue.

“The estimated completion period of the project is 40 months,” the statement added.

Our dam construction 10 kilometres away from north-eastern part of Kirkuk is constructed for meeting the drinking water and irrigation requirements of the people of Kirkuk.
