I'm just glad that they came out and said something even after the other apartment building's announcement, they must have a lot of confidence in the market.

BBJ says there is a 115,000 SF medical office building with a 12 story parking deck planned for Parkside. Must have an account to get details. Hopefully AL.COM will pick up the story shortly.

That's gonna be massive... probably the tallest deck in town. The Benjamin Russell building at Children's is 12 floors itself...

yeah, I always wait for al.com to basically restate the articles and provide pics since I don't subscribe to BBJ lol.

12 stories... yeah, that is huge. hope it looks... decent. parking decks are typically much shorter floor-to-floor heights than office buildings, though, and especially hospitals. a 12-story deck might be in the 120'-144' range.

I'm thinking it may be on that site of the "you are beautiful" building 18th Street and 2nd Avenue South.

It should be on the lot across 4th Ave S from The Ben Russell building.

The site of the old Shoney's and Taco Bell on 5th? I totally ignored that big picture of Children's Ben Russell Building.

3rd/4th and 16th/17th.

The block diagonal from the venue and the new hotel. 2 blocks north of children's.

I look forward to seeing renderings of this thing. Children's has shown that they want their buildings to be visually pleasing, so I don't think it will be a monstrosity, but I'm still nervous.

You are right, just saw a post on FB regarding this project. It will be a Children's hospital building 6 floors and 1500 car parking deck. The deck is to start next month.

Construction crews are now on the scene at one of the most anticipated projects on Birmingham's Southside.

.......

The 17-story project will add 318 apartment units, as well as retail space and a parking deck, to a neighborhood that is seeing a surge of activity. A number of developers have recently purchased property in the area, due in part to the anticipated redevelopment of the Southtown public housing project.

.............

The value of the project was previously estimated at $53 million.

Harbert Realty's Dean Nix told the Birmingham Business Journal on Friday that some light work has already started at the property and a formal groundbreaking will occur in the coming weeks.

The project is expected to take between 16 and 18 months to complete.

Amen. Imagine Vesta, 5Pts Tower, Childrens' Deck, and Midtown Ph3 being under construction all at the same time?!

UAB is supposed to start construction in August on the College of Arts and Science building down on 10th Avenue and 14th Street South, not tall but still a rather large building at 160,000 square feet. It will be "L" shaped with 1 side at 5 floors and the other at 4 floors. And it will finish out the frame for the Campus Green.

Ugh, Vesta is gonna add some serious time to my afternoon commute. I know I'm going to feel compelled to drive by every day after work...

Well, the construction of this (Vesta) high-rise is well underway. I drove by the work-site, instead of my typical interstate route home, to check the progress. More heavy equipment is present at the site and certainly more earth has been moved. VESTA is under construction!!!

Also, additional heavy equipment is active at the 3rd phase of 20 Midtown. Not much chatter about this development, but it is just as impactful (economically) as Vesta.

In other news, I drove by the newly opened Elyton Hotel on Sunday. Not only did I notice that the restaurant was packed, but the sidewalks were busy with people. The 'Heaviest Corner on Earth' seems to be alive again!!
