Hi guys - great news - the downtown construction is comming along very nicely - and damn fast!

I've yet to reseive security clearence to go to the island itself - but I did manage to sneak a picture with my cell phone as we passed the downtown construction site in a speedboat late last night... ( we are all staying at a yacht some 20km off the island.. )

It looks totally unreal I can tell you that... the driver told us that we were 6kms out and that what we could see was only around 1/6th of the how large the entire city would be...

Man I can't wait... hopefully I'll manage to sneak on another boat tomorrow and take some more snaps.. if not I'll try to take some from the yacht... yep you can even see the towers from 20km away - it's crazy!

I'll keep you guys updated!

Hi guys!

Well yeah ehmm... so I finally hit the wall as I usually do when making these imaginary cities...

The problem is that it rarely turns out the way I want it.. and this case is no different..

I'd spend a lot of time creating the textures from my pics and well.. when it finally comes down to it I'm not satisfied with most of them - they don't come off nearly as realistic as I was hopening for..
And neither does the buildings... in this case I was making the buildings very fast and the plan were then to add details later when more of the city was done... but I realise now that to make the both realistic and futuristic city I want I'll have to startover and build it up in a completely different manner... where all the details are there from the begining and where the buildings start out with details and personality not get it gradually - because I'll never get around to that point in real life..

I've not given completely up on this city just yet.. but I will take a break from it and probable start a new project ( that will most likely end up the same way as this and 100s before it )

Here's a "close up" picture of what is/was ment to be the downtown area with a huge square and the city's main tower "the Atlantis Tower" ( inspired by a monument I saw in Singapore btw )

I'll probable take a few more pics of the angles and buildings I like so far... but as far as an investment of a lifetime goes.. well you are better off with Apple or Microsoft stocks..

( btw no refunds for the people who already transfered )

Well... not much else to say really... getting it just right is a HELL of a lot tougher than it looks

But hey if it were that easy the forum would be packed with Stauntons

Thanks for all the nice replies guys - it's appriciated!

See you all when my next product is ready ( it'll probable take some months as I want to start it at a much later state the next time - and in a state where I don't lose interest because the downtown is already done.. )

( on the plus side of things I managed to keep the entire city under 2.5mb )

Crop parts from my photos - straighten the areas and resize them to a size where they look good both close up and from a distance in SU...

But despite it being real glass it doesn't really end up looking like it ( I guess I'll have to learn Kerkythea before my next project )

Honestly I don't really know..

On one hand I want to create something looking ultra realistic right to to streetlevel..

But on the other it was supertall that got me so exited about SketchUp..

I'm currently trying to figue out wheather to resurect this one and give it a major makeover before I start expending it - or start a new from scretch..

( I'm also starting to accept that I'll have to learn how to use Kerkytea to get the visiual render quality I want - *sigh* )

When I've decided I'll let you guys know..

Strange, I thought I posted before, well I will post now.

I loved your work, it is definitely my kind of city Mr D. From the horizon they appear to be floating on water. It's very dream like and I like it a lot! And I do hope you continue to develop it.

Thanks for the nice words guys..

I played around a bit with it tonight and decided it's not the city I want to waste more time on... so I took a final shot and will now move one to more realistic looking and more detailed projects...

I might smack some night time textures and take more pics in the future, but no promises....

Not sure yet...

Something with a Miami vibe but with a dense Chicago/New York center ( just a tad more modern ) and ofcause A LOT of Europification too ( not an easy quest )
