CHICAGO l Portraits of the American City

Chicago: the Windy City, Second City, home of the Cubs, Bulls, and Bueller family. Birthplace of the skyscraper. As many would argue, the quintessential American metropolis.

These are not travel photos. There are no skylines at sunset. There are absolutely no Instagrams of food or selfies at the Field Museum. There is only the pure, elegant, and forceful architecture of one of the world's great cities on display here, and much of that is in portrait, not landscape (as I'm sure Sullivan would have wanted).

Until next time, Chicago.

Chicago is really a "big city", only New York and Chicago can be titled as big city.

Philly? no, downtown too small. Houston and Dallas? no, downtown too small. Miami is huge enough right? no, Miami is resort city.

The third in my mind is San Francisco. What about Boston? yeah might be fourth but its highrises are bit low and lack of characteristics.

Awesome job capturing the street scene and amazing architecture of Chicago. I visited in late '90s and need to get back. I remember being so pleasantly surprised, I had this image of Rust Belt but that was waaaay off

Definitely - central Chicago is a thriving global city. If you want to see Rust Belt decay, you definitely can, though. If you want to see harsh urban problems, you can see that, too. But anyone who expects Chicago to be all decay will definitely be pleasantly surprised.

Just arrived from my first trip to Chicago! It was as amazing as in your pictures, a real dream for the architecture lover. Really hot, and some huge thunderstorms, but still a very nice trip.
