The whole Auburn Board of Trustees seems rather disorganized and confused... I'm glad the U of A trustees aren't this way.

I thought this was the "Tuscaloosa Development Thread"

Haha, I posted that cause I was trying to draw a contrast. Making not of how our Board of Trustees looks organized compared to them.

The Jeffco Commission looks organized by comparison.... wait... naaaaaah.

In fairness to the Aubies, the UABOT is probably just better at keeping it behind closed doors. Lots of really big egos in the room on boards like that.

You are right. Perhaps, we need a Discussion Thread for Tuscaloosa.

Here is a photo I extracted from the campus master plan.
That is interesting, indeed. One of the buildings that would be replaced is East Engineering. Despite the "generic" name, it has been around for many decades. I had a student office there in 1990, and my mother had an office in the building when she was a student in the 1950s.
The university has been talking about replacing that building for as long as I can remember.

I'm very surprised that the Kilgore House appears to be missing in the master plan. Here's a link detailing its history: http://www.uamissingink.com/node/243

Anyway...

Shelton State has plans to increase enrollment from approximately 7,500 now to 12,000 in 2020: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/articl...uses-on-growth

Alabama's first federal womens prison is set to break ground this Wednesday in Pickens County. Pickens has been losing some population for some time now. This prison is supposed to employ 350, so this should really help them out down there.

I noticed tons of supplies/equipment, etc. has been delivered to the new courthouse site. Does anyone know when everything in that area is supposed to be completed?

I have no idea, but it was a HUGE surprise when I drove into downtown yesterday. Lots and lots of dirt had been moved.

The stadium expansion is coming $15m under budget, and here's this tasty morsel:

Construction on the stadium has begun, and the expansion should be ready for the 2010 season.

DCH Cancer Center now open for patients. There are still finishing touches to be made in the grounds on that side of the hospital.

The DCH expansion looks nice.
A few months ago, a developer was looking at buying and redeveloping the Delaware Jackson housing project land (roughly across the street). I don't know if that's still in the works.

The development planned for the Rice Mine Loop (that was supposed to have 2 hotels in the 5-6 story range and a couple of large stand-alone restaurants) appears to have been abandoned, as the construction trailer is no longer there.

Great to see this finally happen. Quite the historic building.

University of Alabama to renovate Foster Auditorium

Quote:
TUSCALOOSA | After years of near vacancy, University of Alabama administrators decided to renovate Foster Auditorium as a home for women’s basketball and volleyball.

“We will soon be launching a major renovation of Foster Auditorium that will return it to its original use,” President Robert Witt announced at the spring semester’s faculty and staff meeting today.

Before renovation work can begin, an architect must come back with an estimated cost and university officials must secure money for the project, Mal Moore, athletics director, said after the meeting.

“We want to put it back as fast as we can,” Moore said. “We will bring it back as close as it was in its heyday.”

Foster was an important part of campus, serving as home for intramurals, graduations, concerts, lectures and campus meetings. It was also home to UA men’s basketball before the sport moved to Memorial Coliseum, now Coleman, in 1968.

The building hosted many women’s athletic events until 1996 when the volleyball team moved out. Women’s basketball played a few games in Foster during the team’s inaugural season in 1975, but moved to the coliseum later that season.

Moore said Wendell Hudson, women’s basketball coach, and Judy Green, volleyball coach, are behind the move from Coleman Coliseum. Coaches offices will also be moved to Foster, he said.

The move will leave the men’s basketball team as the sole occupant of Coleman’s practice court, which the team shared with women’s basketball and volleyball. It’s also the competition court for volleyball.

I am so HAPPY to hear that this is happening! It's about time! I'm glad that it's going to be put to good use.

I was at the Johnny Stallings Drive dedications today in Ttown, playing with the MDB It was probably one of the best ceremonies I have ever been too. I've never seen Paul Bryant Jr. smile that much! And it was probably the most moved I have been in years. Very touching indeed. A very beautiful ceremony. The Stallings' were very grateful and honored. Gene Stallings even came over and thanked us, the band, for playing. A head coach NEVER thanks us.

Speaking from a male perspective... I would like the men's restroom that was closest to our section back! Seems they want the men to now line-up for a pee break the way the ladies used to...

Maybe the economic slowdown delayed this? The medical plaza on the other half of the loop went up pretty quickly.
