You would eventually find peace with a nice Deco inspired supertall on the site of the R.C Harris Treatment plant in The Beach.

A tall glassy supertall in the middle would just complete the look of a mega complex.

134 Parliament | 156.3m | 46s | Lamb Dev Corp | a—A l settlement Agreement

Near Richmond Street East… very tall for this stretch of Parliament.

UT

1366 Yonge | 159.3m | 49s | Bazis | Rosario Varacalli l Approved

Settlement agreement was adopted at Council a few storeys taller.

Elevation:

3D

No new renderings - just the shorter version below with the bizarre, exploding reverse-perspective angle ;-).

5 Huntley | 209.2m | 63s | EHLP | Turner Fleischer l pre-construction

730 units in a butt-ugly building envelope. Best viewed in heavy fog... at night.

UT

This is the 8th 200 metre+ proposal within a few blocks to the east and west.

Compare 5 Huntley’s architecture(?) to BDPQ’s 136 Isabella @ 236 metres (see below).

What can I say, I like 5 Huntley. It reminds of a taller 2 Bloor W. At least it's not blue or green glass.

That render seems to be lacking in other tall proposals nearby... it looks lonely by itself like that.

In a sea of highrise proposals it’s hard to tell them apart after a while, especially based on a single low res rendering. In the end the proof will be in the final product pudding - quality of materials, quality of construction and overall street, neighbourhood and skyline integration. There may be a half dozen that stand out as excellent while the rest are in the mushy middle. I wonder how many will be respected/iconic/still standing a century from now?

Yeah, they are all boxes with the largest floor plates allowed and the smallest setbacks allowed. Beyond the massing, it's not like the 1960s. Most of them have a distinct architectural theme going on. However, larger firms are going to produce series of each theme given there are thousands of high rises built, under construction, and proposed since 2010

Ottawa's first skyscraper?

Claridge Icon on Google Earth measures 143 metres to the roof and 150 metres to the top of the elevator overrun. The database was previously 143 metres

You're neglecting to mention that those 56 rental units are just the required replacement units for the existing 10-storey, 56-unit rental tower that this would demolish (and who's residents will be made homeless in the interim).

I don't get highlighting purpose built rentals in any case. Most new condos aren't occupied by the owners. Last I looked, there's a huge surplus of condo available to rent. Renting a condo from a small scale investor is more affordable than a purpose built rental financed by a large fund.
