I'm starting to get the feeling that this whole ALDOT fiasco (Huntsville projects, 20/59, funding randomly falling off a cliff?, etc...) is going to turn into a political issue. I hope people start asking Bentley serious questions about the issue as campaigning starts ramping up...

Haha, I've been trying to think of a name. I really like the concept if the development, I hope this kind of idea catches on with future developments. It could really go a long way in getting the entire area involved in the changes. Just like when forming master plans for cities, efforts like these help people feel like they're a part of something positive and make them feel like the have ownership of the change that's occurring.

I submitted "Parkside Forge." I hope no one else has attempted to submit it. I really like the effort put forth by Shannon-Waltchack; it's very engaging. I really don't think there's a better way for a developer to win over the public.

EDIT: Good luck TimCity!!

Just saw this article on Southern Living, great news for Birmingham! Congrats from the Mobile Bay Area. http://www.southernliving.com/travel...0417000083558/

I can't wait to make a trip up there and try Todd English's new pub and Big Bad Breakfast, the one in Oxford, MS is terrific.

^^^^^ Thanx for posting.

Alagasco to build two operations centers in East Birmingham and downtown

By Michael Tomberlin
AL.com
LINK
Quote:
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Alagasco is readying plans to replace its current downtown operations center with two new ones it will build in the Birmingham area – one on 34 acres at Interstate 459 and Derby Parkway and the other on 8.5 acres in the 1100 and 1200 blocks of First Avenue North downtown.
...........
When the two projects are completed in February 2015, they will replace Alagasco’s existing operations center at 400 10th St. South. The University of Alabama at Birmingham is in the process of buying Alagasco’s current downtown operations center and its 11.7 acres for $14 million. UAB has said it intends to use the property for a remote parking lot for students and staff.
Doesn't seem like this is gonna be some huge development. But, at least it represents some further investment closer to the CBD of downtown.

We know we're cool. It doesn't hurt for the magazine to be published in Birmingham either.

Here's the top 10 name finalists for the Birmingham's Building development (Link to the website):

The Stockyard @ Railroad Park

BSB Complex

Horizon Point

The Press Box – on 2nd Ave S.

Parkview Station

Park Grove

The Magic City Station

The Bricks

SouthTrack Square

2nd Row South

Some of these are OK, but I'm generally disappointed....

None of those jumps off the page and screams, "ME! ME! ME!" to me either but I could live with: # 1, 4, 5 and 7.

I put my vote in for Parkview Station. It just seemed to be one of the least tacky or cliche without being too run-of-the-mill.
